Amid reports that senior officials in Sudan have directed recruitment, arming and other support to Arab militias waging a "scorched-earth" campaign against African tribes in the province of Darfur, a new poll shows U.S. citizens feel Washington should back a future United Nations declaration of "genocide" with armed force.

PING
Not me.
Huh? Speak for yourself. I don't support genocide of millions of people esp. when we can do something about it. Either that, we stay home and leave everyone in the world alone.
Who cares what we americans think? When it comes to America's foreign policy the only ones who matter are the Eurotwits...
We apparently back a UN declaration. That's powerful stuff.
But the UN hasn't passed the requisite 14 resolutions yet.
It's about time.
I should clarify - that is, first of all, nobody asked me, and secondly, I don't think we should send troops there. It puts our guys at risk and solves nothing (witness Bosnia).
The bands that are burning towns and killing all the citizens are small. It wouldn't take much to intercept and no one needs to be stationed inside Sudan.
My comment is not suggesting supporting genocide. The UN has known about Sudan for years and has done nothing, mostly because of France's involvement. The UN should be requesting military involvement from France, before they come to us.
Personally, I'm worried about overextending our image of vulnerability and appeasement to Islamofascist jagoffs around the world. Inaction is suicide, and this is a lot easier than Iraq.
Let France and Germany lead here. They ain't doing anything anyway.
Besides, we have Iran, North Korea and Syria to take care of. And time's awasting.
France opposes UN Sudan sanctions
The humanitarian situation is worsening
France says it does not support US plans for international sanctions on Sudan if violence continues in Darfur.
The UN Security Council is debating a US draft resolution imposing sanctions on militias accused of "ethnic cleansing" against non-Arabs.
The US also hinted that the sanctions could be extended to the government. ..
France led opposition to US moves at the UN over Iraq. As was the case in Iraq, France also has significant oil interests in Sudan.
Mr Muselier also dismissed claims of "ethnic cleansing" or genocide in Darfur.
"I firmly believe it is a civil war and as they are little villages of 30, 40, 50, there is nothing easier than for a few armed horsemen to burn things down, to kill the men and drive out the women," he said. ...

The US buys oil from Sudan. US didn't know about it either? We know about it now since they're done with christians and are now slaughtering muslims. I suppose France should make a military showing but when will that happen? Never probably.
France doesn't want the genocide to stop. Google the connections to 'gum arabic' and France. I haven't done it, but I'll bet there are some. I do know that quite a few American interests use Sudanese gum arabic in food products.
thanks for the article...Then France can go to hell. Since when this government cared what France thought? They don't want Israel building a defense wall against terrorists too.
US Secretary of State Colin Powell visited Sudan's strife-torn western Darfur region Wednesday after delivering a stern warning to Khartoum to ease the humanitarian crisis, while UN chief Kofi Annan held talks in the capital.
On the plane back to Khartoum, Powell appeared to come out against the idea floated by the United Nations for an international peacekeeping force for Darfur, which is roughly the size of France.
"I cannot see in my mind where a peacekeeping force with the ability to sustain itself over such a large area would come from. I believe the solution has to rest with the government doing what is right" and providing security, he said.

So, in a roundabout way, you are saying WE should do it... ok. ;0)
