Oh he knew what he was doing was wrong, illegal and dangerous and he did it anyway. It reflects the bad judgement of the majority of the former Clinton administration. And their willingness to break any rule for their own purposes.

Where is Woodward? I want investigative reporters on this matter.

An hour ago or so I was channel surfing on the radio and came across Air America, which I've never heard before. They were saying that it was Cheney's office that leaked the information (no sourcing - just their word for it) and that they don't even believe that Berger did what it is he's admitted he did!!! Astounding.

Oh, yes. I dropped a little post over there about Clinton saying "we're all laughing about this" and he's known it for months, no doubt from Berger who called him to tell him "sorry boss, the burglaries didn't go too well."

I saw Bernstein on MSNBC pooh-poohing this as a nothing story...resenting that Tom DeLay called this a "third-rate burglary"...

NO!!!! Bernstein already pooh pooed this?

I tell you, his and WOodward's biggest nightmare is that some political story will actually gain legs and overshadow "their" story.

You mean-spirited Republican attack machine people shouldn't be so hard on Ol' Pantload. Its not like he's the first government official to get caught putting a foreign object in his pantalons.

He quit because he knew he did something wrong. The most outrageous liberal comment I heard was on Hannity & Colmes, where Peter Fenn said "Everyone in DC knew what was in those papers" and I screamed back at the TV, "Everyone but Sandy Berger, or he wouldn't have just walked in there and started stuffing his pockets full of documents".

Whether he walked out of there with copies or the real deal, either stuffed in his pockets or tucked under his arm, he violated intelligence protocol. There's a "sealed envelope" protocol that is followed upon in intelligence circles, and if he walked out of there with papers in plain sight, he's guilty, whether he was boning up for the 9/11 Commission or transferring documents from one building/room to the next. The only exception would be if it were a closed door meeting.

The investigation on Berger has been ongoing for about 7 months now. Why did Kerry's campaign keep him on board for so long?

Great question. Didn't Kerry Kamp vet their advisors? Did Berger LIE to sKerry, or did sKerry arrogantly think that it didn't matter or nobody would find out?

And the best part is, if you spill a little gravy on the tie, nobody can tell.

I suspect Kerry knew about it all along. Inside job as it were. Afterall, it fits the profile of the Kerry campaign. They've been looking for some way to ding Bush on the War On Terror, and ended up having the plot explode in their faces.

Berger demonstrated that he was truly fit for the inept Clinton malAdministration.

Yes, I think you're right about Lurch knowing. Still, it was dangerous for him to keep Burgler on board knowing that a criminal investigation was underway.

He must have thought that nothing would come of the investigation. Now since Burgler has resigned that seems to add smoke to the ever-growing fire.

Another FReeper theory I just read is that the dims leaked the Bergler incident because Ashcroft was closing in on Sandy and others of them. Now, at the convention, the RATS can take to the stage and try to spin the explanation and rationalize it on their own terms and turf.

an eight month investigation and Mr. Berger not once let kerry know about the investigation? I think not.

they probably believed they had "their" people in the Justice department who could delay this investigation until after november. Then they could make it "go away".

Kerry could use the material and berger would not be penalized. (if not made attorney general)
