ABC News- 'Noted Now' Latest Political Breaking News ^ | 7/20/04

SEN. SAXBY CHAMBLISS: 'Reportedly these documents are related to homeland security and then suddenly we see the Kerry campaign came forward with what may have been illegal documents. This is sensitive stuff and was a significant breach of security...Kerry knows better than to use these documents,' Chambliss says in a press conference.

SEN. GORDON SMITH: 'There is a curious connection between the removal of these documents and the Kerry press conference on port security..It's disappointing what people might do as they try and take the President down.

Superb response. This was not a gathering of non classified historical note for a lecture. This was a felon, an act of treason and Berger knew this.

Your response to the troll Snapple is a great one. He might want to quit before the FBI comes knocking at his door to see why he is defend the felon, Berguler.

To: Snapple

People sometimes steal classified materials so they can work at home. If he could have signed them out but didn't, that makes what he did seem a bit more sinister.

Those people are called "felons" and "inmates." As for his legally signing out documents, that can only be done when authorized and when such documents are to be transported to another secure area with proper security procedures being followed along the way.

Evidently, Berger did not have authorization, did not follow the proper security procedures, and did not take the documents to a secure area. The average bureaucrat who did something like Berger is alleged to have done would be facing serious prison time.

This could hit "watergate" levels.

Not according to Carl (Mr. Watergate) Berstein. He says it's a non-story and you know we should believe him. /sarcasm

This Rat Digital Rapid Responder, Snapple, is a troll. This might be very dangerous stuff to be playing with.

Cat Puppy had the right answer for him, and I posted it above.

What a Republican Senator said is exactly the point. You said I was getting talking points from the Democrats, but I got my opinion from watching the Republicans on FOX.

It is true I can't remember the Senator. But I remember what I heard. I am watching FOX and if I hear it again I will get the name.

My point is that it was this Senator's phrasing that made me wonder if the Republicans were using the Berger issue to discredit Kerry.

If Republican Senators have the goods, fine; otherwise it will blow back on them.

I am going to wait for the investigating authorities to tell what the documents were that are unaccounted for and where they went.

Since you have been on this site a long time you should know that there is No profanity and no personal attacks.

I am allowed to post here whether you like it or not. This site is called Free Republic, not Police State Republic.
You are accusing me of being a troll who is really for Kerry. I think that perhaps people who spread rumors before the facts are out may discredit President Bush.

If you know I have been posting for hours, that is because you have, too. If you don't want to read my posts, don't. I find the other posters insights more informative.

When a Republican Senator lays out facts, that will constitute some evidence.

PEople sometimes steal classified materials so they can work at home.

Isn't that why there is currently a stand-down at the Los Alamos labs?

I stopped watching the shrieking lying pundits on tv during a similiar situation, the famous China Gate mess.

We didn't have Fox News, I don't know if Free Republic was even around.

Rush would talk about it and it was on some small internet sites.

I like millions of republicans would sit each night and scream at the pundits who ignore that incredible treason and then heard them try to blame the republicans. I threw a book at Coppell on his nightline lies.

Now I don't bother with these liars and spinners.

We get the news here and it gets out to others.

Wanna talk about grammar, sweety? You just wrote:"Catpuppy write:"................"

It should have been "Catpuppy WROTE", or you could have gotten away with " WRITES ";but you didn't use either.

Wanna keep on critiquing MY posts, newbie? I would DARE do that,if I were you,oh liver in a glass house!

And as far as getting special permission to take papers out,Sandy is sooooooooooooooooo well connected,IF this was a possibility,he could EASILY gotten such permission. But oh nooooooooooo,he STUFFED THE PAPERS DOWN HIS PANTS,IN HIS SOCKS,AND IN HIS JACKET! Wonder why? Because he was on a mission to seek and destroy!

Sarcasm is right, if this were a pub, Mr. Bernstein would be leading the charge. I am confident that if this story starts losing its legs, another shoe will drop. There are to many of the usual suspects coming out of the wood work to defend this idiot.

Fact 1: Berger stole classified info.

Fact 2: Kerry took info off his website related to the classifed info contained in stolen documents.

Fact 3: Berger admitted theft.

Fact 4: Snapple is providing spin for Berger.

Fact 5: Republicans don't have to use Berger to discredit Kerry. Kerry is discredited by associating with a thief of classified material. Kerry is discredited by using classified material stolen by Berger.

Fact 6: Smells like a troll, sounds like a troll, looks like a troll.

Fact 7: You aren't a Republican or you wouldn't say this would blow back on "them".

Thanks what a great way to sign off of Free Republic for a few hours, reading this great reality joke:

On the lighter side, here's another use of the word "inadvertent":

"Remember when Al Gore was caught taking a bust of Abraham Lincoln from the White House?

"An ex-Gore staffer told the GAO that other Gore aides had "inadvertently packed" the Lincoln bust and shipped it off to the Gore homestead, reported the New York Post.

If you read my posts, I said that there is no way that Berger could accidentally take documents. He stole them.

The permission I am talking about is something else.
One poster said that some people with security clearances can get permission to take the papers off-site.

I would like to know if Berger was eligible to take the papers off-site, but didn't. This would make his theft seem more sinister than just wanting to work on the papers at home. He should have been given permission to have the documents when he wrote his testimony. Working from notes is too difficult.

I think when the FBI talks to the media about this case, the issue of whether Berger had permission to check out documents may be addressed. If he had permission to check out papers and stole them instead, that looks like more than wanting to work at home.

Document-gate Takes Down Sandy Berger

Former Clinton administration National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, has stepped down as informal advisor to Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign.

Berger came under scrutiny for removing highly classified documents related to the September 11th investigation from the National Archives. He admitted to accidentally removing the documents.

A criminal investigation has been launched against Mr. Berger. His home and office had been searched by FBI agents in recent days yet no missing documents have been found. Berger did turn over notes related to the investigation yet other documents remain missing.

Although the Kerry campaign and Mr. Berger are referring to the relationship as "informal," Berger served as the foreign policy advisor to the campaign according to JohnKerry.com. During the 9/11 Commission hearings, the Kerry campaign noted Mr. Berger's willingness to waive immunity in order to testify before the commission. This stance stood in contrast to Condi Rice's initial decision to refuse official testimony before the commission.

Democrats have already taken a defensive stance, calling on the individual who supposedly witnessed Mr. Berger stuffing documents into his clothing to step forward.

If Kerry himself used these classified documents for his political gain, he should go to prison as well as Sandy Berger. Actually, since we are in a state of war, and this involved national security, I would not be opposed to the death penalty for TREASON.

I could picture John, Sandy, Bill, Hillery playing bridge together in the slammer. A huge burden would be taken of the shoulders of our nation!
