The real deal

Linda Ronstadt's current tour – 'a history lesson of music' – reflects her dedication to authenticity, and quality By George Varga July 15, 2004 Other singers may have a greater passion for music than Linda Ronstadt. But few have a greater passion for more types of music, or the willingness to perform them, even at the risk of falling on her face.

"My career has befuddled other people, and it's befuddled me," admitted Ronstadt, 58, who finds her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

"I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

"I saw a movie recently about a camel and these people in Mongolia, and I relate to them better than people here in this country. It looks like (Germany's) Weimar Republic to me here."

"I'm not sure why she hates casinos."

Maybe because there are too many Republicans at casinos? While not all Christians avoid gambling, many do (especially Fundamentalist Christians), so I doubt that she actually encountered that many Fundamentalist Christians in that venue.

Christians and Republicans can reliever her pain and torment.

Any Christian or Republican attending her concerts/performances from now on, is neither.

But now, she looks like she shares the "All You Can Eat" buffet with Kirstie Alley.

Michael, I am now having serious doubts about your intelligence.

As if either one of those heifers would share a buffet.

Her career is over.

So who does she have an easy time playing for? Commies? Atheists? Satanists?

No endorsements, no concerts, put a fork in her she is done.

By your quote, she doesn't have a problem performing for Christians, just fundamentalist Christians.

Perhaps I'm showing my age...but who the hell is Linda Ronstadt?

You are showing your age you teeny-bopper. Linda's Elvis Year was probably 1979.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down.

From what I understand, a large percentage of the audience did just that, along with venue's main boss.

Oh Well, another wad of CD's and tapes on the way to the crapper and another name for my personal $hit list....

May God open her eyes before it's too late. One day, if she's not careful, she'll hear:
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

Matthew 25:41

"Y'know, when I was a kid, Linda Rondstadt was a pretty decent looking dish. She's got decent pipes, too."

I'm sure she can still Moo a pretty good tune.

She is an idiot. I am remodeling right now and am sitting her waiting for the plumber to arrive. I don't want or expect the plumber to make political statements to me. She does't realize she is performing for the price of a ticket ... to sing. No politics!

Linda, Linda. Sweetie.

Who on earth told you that you are qualified to discuss politics? The silly aging-hippie media controlled the dialog so long (35 years) that you came to believe you have political wisdom to share. Sorry, girlie, your shallow student-movement politics is strictly dorm room pot session blubber.

If you distrust Christians and Republicans so much ( they combine to include 90% of America), perhaps you should quit touring.

You say you hate them and would rather not know their views on God and politics. Say, there's a thought.... perhaps the audience would prefer to "not know" your particular worship of Michael Moore. See how it works?

Linda, you are still a little girl in your head. Keep singing , you are a rare talent, but zip it on politics, you splash in the kiddie pool of pop music entertainment. Let the adults swim in the deep end of global politics.

Very much to her credit, she discerns the connection between Christianity and the Republican party. Why in the world do black churches not see this nor the likes of my mother in law who goes to a methodist church and votes democrat. Linda in on the ball far more than a lot of people out there.
