Vanity - My Letter to the Editor Regarding Media Bias and the Senate Intelligence Commitee Report
July 19, 2004 | Peach

Posted on 07/20/2004 5:47:48 AM PDT by Peach

I found myself agreeing with Walter Lamb's letter to the editor regarding the leftist press. Sometimes the media bias is as much in what they don't report as what they do report.

For instance, the Senate Intelligence Committee Report, released last week, found no proof that Iraq was behind 9/11 or that Saddam Hussein controlled Osama bin Laden. The headlines blared that "Bush lied". Aside from the fact that no one in the administration ever said that Hussein was behind 9/11 or that he controlled bin Laden, the Report contained over 60 detailed pages of direct connections between Iraq and Al Qaeda, most of which has been ignored by the media. The Report details:

1) 78 reports from different sources provided information that Hussein's regime was actively training Iraqi intelligence soldiers for terrorist attacks against America and American interests.

2) Iraq provided Al Qaeda with training, bomb making, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear training.

3) Direct meetings between senior Iraiqi military officers and top Al Qaeda operatives took place between the early 1990's and 2003.

4) The truth about yellowcake uranium is exactly the opposite of what Joe Wilson said it was. At the request of the CIA, Wilson traveled to Niger to see if Iraq was trying to purchase yellowcake uranium and he reported they were not. He became a media darling and for over a year the leftist press and the DNC complained that President Bush lied in his State of the Union Address. The Report reveals that it is Wilson who lied to Congress and the press and that Iraq was indeed trying to purchase yellowcake uranium from Africa and that Wilson's report upon return from Niger actually gave intelligence analysts even more reason to believe it was true.

To date, very few if any organizations have reported that in a public statement President Vladymir Putin said Russian intelligence warned Washington several times in the days immediately following 9/11 that Hussein was planning to attack the United States. Putin was opposed to the war in Iraq and has little reason to support the president in this matter.

How many people know that regardless of whether or not Hussein was involved in 9/11, he at least knew it was coming? On July 21, 2001, the state run Iraqi newspaper Al Nasiriya carried an article titled “America, an Obsession called Osama Bin Ladin.” Baath Party writer Naeem Abd Muhalhal predicted that bin Laden would attack the US and “he will try to bomb the Pentagon after he destroys the White House.” The article said that bin Laden "will strike America on the arm that is already hurting,” and that the US “will curse the memory of Frank Sinatra every time he hears his songs” which is a reference to the Sinatra song, “New York, New York”.

More than ever, it's vitally important for us to get our news from a variety of news outlets, not the same discredited news organizations.

They publish a lot of my letters here but we're in a conservative area.

I've been told that if you live in a liberal area and they won't publish your letters to try more conservative newspapers, even if it's not your state.

Also, please note something important I try and tell freepers wherever appropriate.

Do not ever post a submitted letter to the editor on the net until it's been published. Most editors use plagarism software similar to what colleges use.

One time I posted a letter to the editor about the economy before it was published. The editor wrote me (e-mail) that they couldn't publish it because it was posted on Free Republic. I tried to convince him that I was Peach but he couldn't verify that naturally!

The so called "Mainstream Media" controls over 95% of the propaganda that is distributed as news. Why does everyone not understand why they want to do away with FOX News and the Radio networks in America. In most Communist countries and those run by dictators the government controls the media and we have those in government here who are close to doing the same thing.Even most of these call in shows screen who they let get through and can manipulate what is put on the air.
I have gotten to the point I never watch the news on ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN or MSNBC because in my opinion their agenda is etched in stone and they are controlled by the Liberal Wing of the Democrat Party.

Oh, I think Freepers understand about the mainstream media. An amazing percentage of people don't understand, however, including my parents who are moderate Republicans.

Exactly. There is no free press. Even Reuters is over 30% Saudi owned. It's gone. News is to be had in bits and pieces, and the thinking public must piece things together. So if the thinking public is gradually educated not to be the thinking public, it will do as it is told. If there is only 1 source of news, or intelligence that is released, we will all have 1 voice.........You'd think this was a prophecy. It is hard to believe that this is happening in my lifetime.

LOL. Me too; if she's not a freeper we could recruit her.

Gave my chiropractor the FR web site today; she loved the letter and wanted to know where I get my information.

Peach, been gone for a few days and didn't see your letter until today. Super job on that. It's facts like that that people need to see, not the smear campaign of the top news media. You're doing a great job on those letters. Keep up the good work!
