Clinton Aide Berger Is Subject of Criminal Probe [Another Clinton Cover Up?]

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton's national security adviser is the subject of a criminal investigation after he removed from a secure reading room at the National Archives classified documents related to the 9/11 investigation, federal officials said. A lawyer for Samuel Berger said last night that on two occasions, while reviewing hundreds of documents in preparation for the 9/11 Commission's investigation, his client inadvertently removed several copies of an after-action report assessing the effectiveness of the Clinton administration's counterterrorism efforts during the run up to the 2000 millennium celebrations. Lanny Breuer, Mr. Berger's lawyer, also said that Mr. Berger had intentionally removed handwritten notes that he had taken during three separate visits to the Archives last fall to review classified documents. Mr. Breuer said removing those notes was a violation of National Archives policy, and that Mr. Berger regretted the action. "He knew it was a technical violation, and he admits that it was an error in judgment." In a statement last night Mr. Berger said, "I deeply regret the sloppiness involved, but had no intention of withholding documents from the commission and, to the contrary, to my knowledge every document requested by the commission from the Clinton administration was produced." A Justice Department official last night said that the after-action report was highly critical of the millennium efforts and said that luck played a major role in preventing several terrorism attacks in the U.S. in 1999, including the arrest of would-be bomber Ahmed Ressam as he tried to enter the U.S. from Canada. That report went on to say there were glaring weaknesses in the efforts, and the actions taken shouldn't be used as an operating model for the government, the official said......"

Page 17, below the fold, ~5" of two columns. Where are the Fawn Hall pictures? She was page one material if memory serves (for good reasons I might add). Remember the flames shooting out of the commiecrat's heads back then?

His claim of inadvertance is too far-fetched

It has the appaearance that he's not even trying to come up with a convincing story. It looks as if he just walked on, stuffed his pockets as were with incriminating documents, top secret papers, walked out without any security challenge (which was where the system really failed), and probably shredded and/or burned the offending history. I'd much rather have seen on the news - "Sandy Berger in hospital, in stable condition, after tussle with security guard. Berger said to have been in possession of classified documents."

Does anyone know what role he serves in the Kerry campaign? And I'm curious if anyone knows what role Joe Wilson played in the campaign, at least over the past few weeks, at least?

"This is the first article I have seen where he put documents in his "pants pocket". Initial articles just said pants. We should be careful not to overplay our hand here... it is being stated that he stuffed documents down his pants. Of course this is no way lets this guy off the hook but we will be accused of smear and distortion if we don't get our facts straight.

I just heard Lanny Davis on CNN speak of Berger stuffing the documents into his "socks". He said "socks more than once, BTW.

So which is it? Socks or pants or both?

The 9/11 results were already tainted, a serious understatement, in my book. Can you say Gore-lick, aka, she who built the intel wall to protect klinton from chi-com-campaign-cash implications. As well, don't forget the seriously, morally flawed hack DICK Ben Venista, dim flak from impeachment. Both served on the 9/11 commission and specifically Gore-Lick did not resign when she had a glaring conflict of interest. More than likely due to the fact the Klintons kept the FBI files to keep future detractors at bay.
I think that the Klinton Koo-Laid Krew may be doing a head fake. He may have stated the docs have something to do w/ the Millenium plot, but I think it is much deeper and he may have just done klinton's final Whitewater-wash to allow Killary Klinton a cleaner shot at her presidency/dictatorship.
I'm P!zzed!!!
peace...D

National Security Advisor to Kerry, though I suspect that Kerry will now claim he's never met Berger, and that Berger has never advised him.

Socks or pants or both?

Well as I said, as I understand it, it was - as it were. He said he wrote notes to himself, and stuffed these in his jacket or pants or whatever. I don't know why anyone would believe a word he says, at this point. But that's what he says. But the classified documents he just put in a file, or his briefcase, directly. He just walked out with these, without any security check.

This is an extremely surprising thing for Lanny Davis to say... are we being set up here?

Kerry said that Republicans are crooks.

Kerry is not even President, yet, and his advisors are already being investigated for possible indictment.

After a scan of the NBC/CBS/ABC websites, I think the real story here is the mainstream press burying, ignoring, and downplaying this story.
