WASHINGTON - President Clinton (news - web sites)'s national security adviser, Sandy Berger, is the focus of a criminal investigation after admitting he removed highly classified terrorism documents from a secure reading room during preparations for the Sept. 11 commission hearings, The Associated Press has learned.
Berger's home and office were searched earlier this year by FBI (news - web sites) agents armed with warrants. Some drafts of a sensitive after-action report on the Clinton administration's handling of al-Qaida terror threats during the December 1999 millennium celebration are still missing.
Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed handwritten notes he had taken from classified anti-terror documents he reviewed at the National Archives by sticking them in his jacket and pants. He also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio, they said.
"I deeply regret the sloppiness involved, but I had no intention of withholding documents from the commission, and to the contrary, to my knowledge, every document requested by the commission from the Clinton administration was produced," Berger said in a statement to the AP.
Berger served as Clinton's national security adviser for all of the president's second term and most recently has been informally advising Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites). Clinton asked Berger last year to review and select the administration documents that would be turned over to the commission.
The FBI searched Berger's home and office with warrants earlier this year after employees of the National Archives told agents they believed they witnessed Berger put documents into his clothing while reviewing sensitive Clinton administration papers, officials said.
When asked, Berger said he returned some of the classified documents, which he found in his office, and all of the handwritten notes he had taken from the secure room, but said he could not locate two or three copies of the highly classified millennium terror report.

Thanks!
The Times ran a six paragraph article, IGNORING reports that any documents were missing. They fasely gave the impression that all of the documents had been returned.
What a f#@#ing joke the Slimes is.

A guy I know has the same problem. When people ask him what he does for a living he answers "I train monkeys."
I just got here. Are you SERIOUS?
Oops - I just saw it in the article. Nevermind. : )
WOW. THAT IS SO HIP! FOR ONCE, THEY GET CAUGHT!!!
I appreciate your enthusisam. But you are depending on the GOP to actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT and you they have no track record.
Sorry, facts get in the way!
Regards
LOL...Monkeys would be easier!
TWA Flight 800 could not have possibly happened as they said. The first report I heard was on CBS. The bulletin said that the PENTAGON is reporting an airplane that blew up at 12,000 feet. I never again heard a report that said it was reported by the Pentagon. During an election year, Clinton could not allow us to know that a terrorist act took out that plane. It would shut down the airline industry and do economic damage.
Berger takes a classified report and loses it? The very report that was never given to Bush. The very report that has al Qaeda info that Clinton claims he gave to Bush. Nope. They hid this info from the Bush team. They have been caught in a lie of monumental proportion.
TWA Flight 800 is proceeding in court. For OKC, Jayna Davis is making the rounds on more talk shows. She will be on COAST TO COAST at the beginning of August.
What has been going on with Clinton agents in the FBI is starting to unravel. It may all come apart on him and on the RATS. It is a house of cards.
And I'm posting too quickly,so that I don't miss too much,I left out the word never.I just won't ever catch up now.
I've always believed, from basic evidence, that both OKC and TWA 800 were terroist attacks the Clinton Admin covered up.
It's so obvious. McVeigh was an idiot. He was recruited during the Gulf War. He didn't have enough brains to do what he did in OKC.
Even George Stepphieboy slipped up on national TV and said, "when TWA 800 was blown up".
Tim McVeigh went down without squealing because he wanted to be a martyr. He wanted to be the one who got back at the government for Ruby Ridge and Waco. Never would he want to be associated with being a traitor who was colluding with foreign agents.
The OKC bombing info coming out before the election is a secret fantasy of mine (the older I get, the less interesting my fantasies become).
I'm not counting on it.
Bump to finish reading later.
Read THE THIRD TERRORIST. It shines the light of truth on OKC. It is undeniable. That story, I convinced, is going to keep steamrolling. The truth will be exposed.
Thanks buddy, I'll do that! Night.
I don't think it will happen before the election. But count on it ---- OKC will be solved. A few members of the 9-11 commission are reading THE THIRD TERRORIST right now.
That's why I just can't keep up with this thread............I'm reading every post. :-)
Yes it is.
However, we know that the events in question took place 9 months ago; So why are we learning of it this evening?
From what I gather, Ashcroft, in his testimony to the 9/11 committee this spring, alluded to the original un-washed-by-Beger report that Damned Clinton. So insiders on both side of the aisle knew this would break before the election, just when?
Perhaps the 'Rats {they very well might be the source of this leak} want this issue to be hot on the skewer now so they can use the upcoming convention to publicly water the issue down with 98 degree .....
