Perhaps a DNA test would resolve this thorny issue.

Swope, 5-foot-4 and 160 pounds, said she was raised a boy but underwent a series of operations to make her completely female from 1995-97. She legally changed her name from Daniel Swope to Danielle Swope in 1996.

That's quite a physique! In any event, as a weekend golfer, I have to wonder whether anyone who took up the sport only two years ago is ready for tournament play.

Hey, the only club she's swingin' these days has 'Callaway' etched on it. If Sorenstam can play on the men's tour, she should be allowed to play with the lesbi...er, women.

Didn't the Nazis try this in the 1930's?

I remember in the 1960's some "woman" athlete from I think an eastern bloc country was also banned, as the news men joked, "she had one too many chromosomes in her genes."

Husband and wife on their 30th wedding anniversary decided to go for a game of golf while on vacation. On the fourth green the husband turns to the wife and says: 'Honey, I've been hiding something from you for all these years. 20 years ago I had an affair. I think after 30 years of marriage I can no longer hide a secret from you.'
The wife thought long and hard and said: 'After all this time, I forgive you. Why ruin a marriage for one indiscretion'.

On the 10th green the wife said: 'Honey, I've been hiding something from you for all these years. 32 years ago, before we were married, I was a man. I had a sex change, but I can no longer hide this secret from you'.

The husband went ballistic. And hit her a slap in the face.

She said: 'How could you do that? After I forgave you your indiscretion'.

He said: 'How could you? How could you? You've been playing off the women's tees ALL these years!' ;-)

Someone who was born a hermaphrodite and then sought medical treatment as a way to physically assign herself to a single sex is worlds apart from someone who was physically whole and decided to change their sex.

But shouldn't a chromosone check have decided this issue? They've been using that for the Olympics for quite some time.

Perhaps her chromosones didn't fit into the standard XX or XY category?

Perhaps there should be an instant XY/XX DNA test.

it is worth noting transexual is still a mental illness. It is treated with cosmetic mutilation surgery.

"A golfer who was born a hermaphrodite ..."

I would have to side with the golfer - *SHE* should be allowed to play as a female.

This is not one of those I "feel" like a woman therefore I ..... wierdos.

This person was one of the rarities that are born with a defect that makes the "true sex" non-distinguishable until they begin to mature and their true-self begins to emerge.

There have been many "doctor's choice" operations of selecting a male-path at birth and the brain turns out female, and vice versa.

Not every one fits into the XX or XY classifications. Babies with XXY and XXXY are born and survive to maturity. A chromosomal examination of this person may well reveal that she is one such case.

Other people are born as mosaics (I think that's the word), where different cells in their bodies have different chromosomes. A common example is a calico cat. I have one. Most of her fur is white, but there are numerous patches of orange tabby and gray tabby, each one of which has a pattern that matches what the pattern is like on a full tabby of the same size in that location. Calico males are very rare, and I'm not sure they're able to breed.

I get so mad when I hear about parents who decide early on in the life of their hermaphrodite child which sex to go with. It plays into the feminists' theory that our sex differnces are merely a matter of societal conditioning. Then the poor child grows up and realizes that his/her parents chose wrong. I wish there was a law to protect these children from sexual assignment surgery until they are old enough to know what sex THEY believe themselves to be. Or at least go with what the chromosomes say, XX or XY. Some parents choose to ignore this and raise their child as what they want instead! No wonder this poor woman's mother forced a hysterectomy on her at the age of 11. She probably started developing breasts and liking boys but mom and dad still wanted a boy....tragic.

Perhaps a DNA test would resolve this thorny issue.

And perhaps not, given that she was born a hermaphrodite (meaning having characteristics of both sexes). Lots of possibilities for confused chromosomes.
