Democrats blast Schwarzenegger for mocking lawmakers
Democrats arent amused by Gov. Arnold Schwarzeneggers use of the mocking term girlie men to describe some lawmakers, although a spokesman for the governor said no apology would be forthcoming.
Schwarzenegger dished out the insult at a rally Saturday as he claimed Democrats were delaying the budget by catering to special interests. Democrats protested that the remark was sexist and homophobic.
If they dont have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, I dont want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers ... if they dont have the guts, I call them girlie men, Schwarzenegger said to the cheering crowd at a mall food court in Ontario.
The governor lifted the term from a long-running Saturday Night Live skit in which two pompous, Schwarzenegger-worshipping weightlifters repeatedly use it to mock those who dont meet their standards of physical perfection.
Democrats said Schwarzeneggers remarks were insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations. State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the governor had resorted to blatant homophobia.
Tune in to MSNBC for discussions on this question throughout the day and to hear some of your e-mails on air.
It uses an image that is associated with gay men in an insulting way, and it was supposed to be an insult. Thats very troubling that he would use such a homophobic way of trying to put down legislative leadership, said Kuehl, one of five members of the Legislatures Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.
Making a point? Schwarzeneggers criticism of Democrats stems in part from their support of one bill prohibiting schools from contracting services with private companies, and another giving workers authority to sue their employers to enforce labor laws. Each side accuses the other of caving in to special interests.

B.S.
Candy a$$ sodimites would arguably be homophobic. These people need to chill out.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
...and it figures that Manly-girl Sheila Kuehl would be the lead screamer on this! (For those who don't know, she looks like a clean-shaven Michael Moore. And no, she doesn't like boys.)
Arnold hit a sensitive nerve. Those metrosexuals and homos are ticked off. I mean they can call Bush all kind of names and they can use X-rated language but when our Governor ridicules them, all hell breaks loose. The Democrats can dish it out but they can't take it. "Girly men" indeed and it fits them to a T.
LOL
They are girlie men. It is not sexist, they are just little spoiled brats. End all entitlements, there will be plenty of money for government expenses.
Go Arnold GO!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely, Go Arnold you are the MAN
I'm glad he's sticking to his guns and showing the left he's got some you know what, republicans who give in to the press and so-called popular opinion usually make lousy politicians and lose elections.
And by the way, how come these same people didn't go after the Hollywood/NYC/television liberals who came up with the skit and quote on Saturday Night Live? It's only after a republican uses the quote that the roaches come out of the woodwork demanding an apology.
Whatsamatta, RATS???? Truth hurt?
Too F'n bad !
Indeed, and it looks like Arnuld has a big pair to say such a thing on the "girlie men " left coast.
Exactly. As Rush said today: These are the same people who support MoveOn.org and similar groups, who compare Pres. Bush to Hitler and Republicans/Conservatives to 'Brownshirts'!
Do you remember when Rep. Rick Lazio made a similar statement back during Campaign 2000, calling someone (I forget who) "pansies"? This same group immediately labeled him "homophobic". Geesh!
Sounds like Sheila Kuehl has resorted to hate-mongering.
That means I'm solidly in the middle of the Republican's greatest demographic, yet I rather enjoyed that picture.
