SRINAGAR, July 22: Lashkar-e-Toiba’s deputy chief for Jammu & Kashmir, ‘Colonel’ Usman, was among the five Pakistani militants killed in a fierce gunbattle at Tikkipora village in Kupwara district today. As many as 24 structures, including nine residential houses, were destroyed but none of the soldiers or civilians suffered any damage. Troops killed two more Pakistani militants while making an attempt of infiltration in Karnah sector of Kupwara district even as suspected militants have killed a soldier and an activist of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kashmir valley since last evening.

Informed sources told the EXCELSIOR that troops of Rashtriya Rifles 18th Bn, who are part of Army’s Kilo Force, laid siege to Tikkipora village in the militant-infested Lolab valley of Kupwara district in the forenoon today. According to a specific information made available to Army, Pakistani militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were in a meeting at the house of one Ghulam Nabi Ganai at Ganai Mohalla of Tikkipora.

In the afternoon, a fierce gunbattle commenced between the security forces and the holed up militants, which lasted for several hours. Troops fired rockets on the target house, which caught fire and gutted completely. Flames engulfed a cluster of adjoining structures and over two dozen houses and other structures were destroyed in the blaze. However, neither the security forces nor the civilians suffered any damage.

I don't know how big the tunnel systems are in NY or even if they're all known, but I do know that there are still an awful lot of the old prohibition tunnels and hiding places.

As far as that goes, if power was dramatically taken out, the subways could be owned by whoever had the numbers, weapons, and will.

Thanks for the post knak. I heard the same thing this morning on the news. Said most of the intel came from recently captured AQ guys. Troubling.

It is good we have this intelligence now. We had no such intel prior to 9/11/01. I am of the opnion they will use attack methods not previously seen and that it will be multiple coordinated attacks.

Question is, how do we stop it? Being prepared is necessary and fine and dandy too, but it would be much better to stop the attacks before they happen.

I know the powers that be, like us, connect the dots. I worry about disinformation coming from these guys. The AQ guys must have said something that correlates to other intel the gov't has to issue such warnings.

Lock n Load! Time is growing short. Now is the time to be making final preparations. I pray that I'm wrong, but this could get nasty.

Explosive Device Shatters North End Window Federal Investigators Called To Scene

BOSTON -- With the Democratic Convention right around the corner, emergency responders got an early test Friday in Boston's North End when a small explosion in the Copps Hill cemetery gave neighbors quite a scare.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that the explosion occurred at about 8 a.m. in the graveyard near Snow Hill Street. It shattered a window in the Michael Angelo building, which is housing for the elderly.

"It sounded like a bomb. A real bomb," said Theresa Delelalio, 92.

"We saw the second plane hit, and honestly, when I came out here and I saw the bomb squad and everybody out here, it kind of brought back a bad memory to me. It's quite frightening when something like this happens,"

No one was injured, but Boston Police Department's bomb squad and federal investigators were called to the scene.

"With things going on, the convention and what have you, you have to be concerned. I mean is it going to be like this all week?" neighbor Michael Magner said.

Police said that the explosion was most likely kids throwing firecrackers that could have been stuffed in a bottle.

"People have to understand that since 9-11, the world has changed. This isn't funny. If it was kids putting firecrackers in a bottle for a joke -- it is not a joke," resident Susan Weinstein said.
