The `Plame' truth: That Joe Wilson lied

By Boston Herald Editorial Staff

Sunday, July 18, 2004

It's a good thing former Ambassador Joseph Wilson took advantage of his 15 minutes of fame and already published his book bashing President Bush [related, bio], ironically entitled the ``Politics of Truth.''

It's not the best marketing strategy to have two governments essentially call the author a liar.

The Senate Intelligence Committee report released last week about intelligence missteps leading up to the war in Iraq were crystal clear about Wilson's falsehoods.

Wilson's insistence that his wife, CIA operative Valerie Plame, had nothing to do with his selection to lead a pre-Iraq war mission to Niger is a flat-out lie. She's the one who suggested Wilson in the first place, according to documents unearthed by the congressional committee.

Aside from revealing Wilson as the partisan phony he is, this new revelation puts in context why someone in the White House might have identified Plame to columnist Robert Novak in the first place. Wilson charged it was an act of political revenge because he was critical of President Bush's use of the pre-war intelligence. In fact, it is relevant to Wilson's credibility to understand why and how he was selected for the mission.

More importantly, both the British and Senate investigations found the raison d'etre for Wilson's presence on the national stage is false, too.

Remember those much-debated 16 lines in last year's State of the Union address? In a New York Times column, Wilson claimed Bush ``twisted intelligence'' by arguing Iraq was trying to purchase uranium from Niger. Wilson's investigation, he insisted, found no basis for it.

cw2We know now that truth is a relative thing to this former ambassador. And it turns out, according to both countries' reports on pre-war intelligence failures, Bush's assertion was absolutely correct.

Wilson's report provided ``some confirmation of foreign government service reporting'' about Iraq's interest in getting uranimum from Niger, according to the Senate. British investigators found Wilson's assertion that the report was based solely on forged documents also untrue. The substantiation for the British intelligence report on Niger came from ``several different sources.''

The political damage to Bush caused by Wilson's lies can't be undone. But at least now he has been undone by them, too.

We can't get this message out enough. The "mainstream media" is not spreading the truth about President Bush being right and Joe Wilson being a liar.

We have to take it upon ourselves to pass the news along, face-to-face, via email, or however we have to in order for the truth to get recognized by the U.S. voters.

EXACTLY!

Today the NYT is proclaiming that the Senate Intelligence Report says there were no ties between Iraq and AQ.

That is a complete fabrication. The Report details over 60 pages of Iraq's ties to terrorism and AQ specifically.

The Report also details how Iraq trained AQ terrorists in biological, chemical and nuclear bombing.

The Report also details that from 1998 to 2003 over 78 reports from different sources were received that Iraq intended to attack America and American interests.

On this I happen to agree that it was not Wilson's wife Valerie Plame that proposed his "INTEL" gathering trip initially.

THIS is what everyone is dancing around, who conjured up this whole scheme that sent Ms. Valerie to suggest him in the first place???????

The NYT is guilty of selective reporting in the extreme. They'll tell the unvarnished truth on the same day Punch Sulzberger gives up his gun permit.

Wilson's self serving lies aided the enemy in time of war. The mainstream media put this agenda propaganda out as fact. Wilson's wife was convienently exposed as CIA. Lots more agenda news and book hype rolled into one. These traitors aren't happy just to treason anymore, they want to make big bucks doing it.

Exactly correct. I hope they end up in jail.

It's still amazing to me how the left is still trying to spin this in a positive light. I wonder if the blogosphere has finally been able to convince Joshua Micah Marshall of DNC Talking Points Memo, to retract his lies about Bush/Wilson/Plame.

Hugh Hewitt calls old Josh out all the time. I'm waiting to hear from the loud leftists, but the silence is DEAFENING.

Is Joe Wilson an officer or employee in the Government? If so, can he be charged with lying while on duty?

I think this what all liberals and democrats are after. What they do not realize is that they want a socialistic society but will get a totalitarian society instead.

I think I am on to what you are saying. It would be good to out the DNC black team that operates so far down that it is set up so as to avoid attribution.

There is obviously a plan behind this pattern.

1. Stall the Iraq invasion long enough so that Saddam can get rid of the evidence by getting it out of his country. The Russians and the French and the Chinese would likely have been involved. But of course, there is an American connection. Here is the role of the black ops. Let me see who in the democrat party is supposed to be tight with all these folks???? And has cover to meet with emmissaries without raising suspicion?? F I always was intrigued by that traitor Ramsey Clark's mission to Saddam about a month before the invasion of Iraq. What was the real purpose at that particular time and what role did it play in the subsequent mystery of the absence of WMD and how it was played in the American and world press.

2. The Joe Wilson caper was designed as part of a comprehensive effort. It didn't just happen. Where is Andrea Mitchel Greenspan now with reporting about good old Joe Wilson???

Your whole post is great. But this bears repeating:

I always was intrigued by that traitor Ramsey Clark's mission to Saddam about a month before the invasion of Iraq. What was the real purpose at that particular time and what role did it play in the subsequent mystery of the absence of WMD and how it was played in the American and world press.

And I would be MORE than happy if they were able to get the government they would create - if it didn't involve the rest of us...

I have a feeling that Wilson's 15 minutes of fame is not over. If Kerry wins, Joe will get a position in the new administration (for services rendered) - one, however, that will not require confirmation by the (still) Republican Senate.

Don't ever expect anything from "the mainstream media". They will not deliver.

FOX has been reporting "Bush was right after all" about every 1/2 hour.

I hear his wife was undercover as a streetwalker. She embraced the roll because it hit close to home. Then she posed on the cover of vainity fair. I dont think the rumor about her sleeping with Pres Klinton can be verified, but its worth trying.

Well .. good luck with your rumor .. but I don't think you'll find many takers here.

Oh yeah .. by the way .. "Vanity Fair" is not spelled "VAINITY".

And .. quite frankly .. I don't give a RIP who x42 slept with.
