Personally, I have a feeling that if it was Clinton or Lurch in the White House, the ACLU wouldn't be saying a word.

Well be strong...the ACLU is rather scary but we can defeat 'em.

This information WAS collected when Bill Clinton was in the White House. Some were offended that efforts were made to verify the purchase of some book(s) to corroborate some statements in Monica's phone calls with Linda Tripp.

I was more offended that bookstores keep tabs on the names of who is buying what book than I am at the government/legal team for asking for those records.

Commercial interests and the government have been collecting and SELLING this information on us for decades. This is not "Bush's" evil plan.

"nonsense! who could remember such a long ID number?"

I think it was to keep from putting a SSN number in there. And most of us know that one by heart, particularly if we served in the military.

Yes, it is not just a Bush administration thing.

We are there.

The problem is not the government, it is the fact that private companies have no limit on what they do with our information.

Private use of our personal info needs to be protected just as our homes would be.

Arg... that was NOT a typical pizza phone answer. if they had used a typical pizza person, that video would have been 15 seconds long. Those people can't even speak English let alone think to look up your credit record, your clothing sizes, your credit card purchases, your library records, your subscriptions, the places your work, dangerous driving zones, your health records, etc... Even the ones that speak English wouldn't be smart enough to do it.

Little stuff like that just gets to me.

"The problem is not the government, it is the fact that private companies have no limit on what they do with our information."

Actually it is all of the above. My biggest complaint, which causes us all to be venerable, is the government letting privet industry use our SSN for identification. And as anyone who has studied identified theft knows, the SSN is the lynch pin to the whole thing.

SSN cards use to have boldly printed on them in bright red letters, "For Tax Identification Purposes Only," However it has been many years since they have stated that.

So as far as I am concerned the government is the biggest promoters of identify theft, doesn't that violate their obligation under the health, safety, and welfare clause of the Constitution?

Whats the difference if the gov. promotes identity theft or just outright theft?

Yawn. A lot of old stuff that can be just as convenient as it is troubling. Ya don't want to id yourself? Don't use technology that allows it. Walk into the pizza shop to order your meal. Waiting 10-15 minutes is not the end of the world that everybody pretends it is.

If you support the ACLU you are going to bring the health nazis and their ilk to power more quickly.

Before that, it said "Not to be used for identification"

Another big lie.

Sorry son, but I use to have one. So take your "another big lie" and put it where the sun don't shine.
