The Issue I Like President Bush Least On
Knight Of The Mind ^ | Saturday, July 17, 2004 | .cnI redruM

We really need our government to stop giving away other people's money. It fails to live up to Robin Hood's noble ideas. If only Uncle Sam really took from the rich and gave to the poor. Instead, he sends the IRS to pillage the suburbs and then gives it to the trial lawyers.

As an antidote to the redistributionist policies of left-leaning politicians, I've habitually, almost reflexively, voted GOP. Thus, when a Republican opens the coffers to feed the Leviathan, it leads to profound dissonance. Therefore, The Prescription Drug Panderation Act is the absolute least positive move that George W. Bush has made since taking office.

Regretfully, the Bush Administration has decided to put the already avidupois Prescription Drug Panderation Act on a Michael Moore diet. They have now decided to let people use the benefit on weight loss drugs. Maybe the next time someone gets a hangover, this bill can pay for a shot of "Hair of The Dog".

I feel sorry for people who need expensive drugs. (At least of the legal variety.) What I don't understand, is where we're ever to draw the line. We need to draw it somewhere. We will need more than a bunch of drugs to solve our problems if we don't.

I vastly prefer President Bush to any of his opponents in 2004. However, the Prescription Drug Panderation Act sucks. It needs to be loudly criticized until it goes bye-bye.

We all know about Bush`s prescription drug plan and the majority of FReepers don't agree with spending $550 billion to give Bill Gates and other rich folk free drugs. Granted. OTOH, just imagine what kind of spending we'll see from Kerry and Edwards should they be fortunate enough to win.

The choice is clear. Vote Bush-Cheney.

Btw, what does "avidupois" mean.

There is no such word as, "avidopois".

I think you meant "avoirdupois".

Drugs might be less expensive without all the FDA regulations...

Absolutely. Reagan would have deregulated, not subsidized. I think President Bush caved in to popular pressure here rather than putting principle over poll numbers.

The majority can be wrong.

I love W but this is one issue I strongly disagree on.

I'm not joining the LP. I've voted Libertarian in a few local elections but that's it.

I was actually being flip. I voted Libertarian in 1992. Bill Clinton was not who I wanted to put into office.

Don't surrender Robin Hood to the commies. Robin Hood was good not because he stole from the rich and gave to the poor....he was good because he stole from those who stole it and returned it to those who earned it.

Please, please, please, we need to keep the Health Savings Account provisions of that law. They're a free market, competition-based reform of health care that will benefit many people who will take charge of their own healthcare needs WITHOUT a government bureaucracy in the way.

Robin Hood stole from the GOVERNMENT. Let's get the metaphor correct! He was returning confiscatory taxes.

Other than that, I do agree that the Prescription Drug Act is an evil thing.

May I ask what the point of this was?

These points have been discussed to death on FR.

Are you just wanting to get something stirred up?

Right now, we need to be pulling together to keep Kerry out.

You make valid points, but why do this right now?
