LOS ANGELES -- Two stars of the CBS hit television series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" were fired for breach of contract, KCBS-TV and Variety reported Thursday.

Actors Jorja Fox and George Eads, who play investigators Sara Sidle and Nick Stokes, were fired after asking for more money to stay on the show, according to the reports.

Danica Smith, publicist for both Fox and Eads, told The Associated Press that Fox was fired Wednesday but did not have details. Smith could not confirm whether Eads was fired.

A CBS spokesman said the network had no comment.

Eads didn't show up for work Thursday, the first day of production for the next season, according to the news station and Variety, which posted a story on its Web site Thursday.

The actors were in the fifth of their seven-year contracts.

Eh, I'm ambivalent. Eads character, Stokes, was a little too pretty boy and Fox's character, Sidle, was too much of a mad woman. Better to write them out of the script and let Grissom do the heavy lifting.

Does this mean we'll be forced to watch more of the weird-haired duo of Gary Dourdan and Eric Szmanda?

Boy, that is a good question. I have seen that photo 5 times and I didn't catch that. Wonder what the answer is?

That's his right hand. Does a ring on that finger symbolize something?

These people start believing their own press releases about how cool and important they are to the show so they think they are irreplaceable. But nobody (well maybe Rush Limbaugh) is irreplaceable.

In soap operas you usually find this out when you show up on the set and they hand you a script where your character is either killed or diagnosed with some incurable disease.

For me the show is unwatchable anyway, much too darkly lit and packed full of silly mannerisms and hokey directorial tricks. I think the whole CSI fad will burn out much more quickly than other similar megahits have in the past.

However I hope Gary Sinise's version brings something new to table because I would very much like to see him succeed. He just might be my favorite actor.
