What's up with Snopes? For all they usually got their facts straight, they always had an undeniable leftist lean. They must have a new contributor...

Do you recall the movie made about him in the Hanoi Hilton? I believe it was Hal Holbrook who stared as Denton in that movie. The guy was beaten unrelenting for months. Fonda probably helped with that.

I once checked out Admiral Denton's military service record, and I was awed by what I read.
Navy Cross, Dept. of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, three Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts (real ones, not the John Kerry type), etc.
One of the greatest U.S. military heroes of all time.

Denton was the POW who was filmed reading a statement by the Viet Cong. While reading the statement, Denton blinked his eyes in Morse Code the word "TORTURE".

Pretty humbling, ain't it?
What knocks me out is how many more like him are out there...
plus the unsung heroes whose heroism and character just doesn't get documented/recognized.

The Democratic leadership refused to allow him on the Assembly floor and there will be no 4th of July celebration. A memo from the Democratic speaker's office said "problems have arisen both with regards to the spirit, content and participation of various individuals with regard to the ceremony." Apparently, they said that he did not believe in the "separation of church and state" and they didn't like the policies he supported as a United States Senator and therefore they would not allow him to be on the Assembly floor or to speak. "But Whoopie Goldberg would do fine as his replacement", the spokesman for the Democrat leadership said. "As Democrats, we support vile language, filthy words and sexual perversion. We also tell lies about the, so called, Separation of Church and State. But most people are so stupid they don't know it - and that's our voters".
