[snip]Goldberg began promoting Slim-Fast early this year with the slogan "I'm a Big Loser" which now has an ironic double meaning.
The statement was issued by Slim-Fast vice president Terry Olson rather than the major Democratic donor who is the company's president, F. Daniel Abraham.
Abraham and his wife who are big supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) have given at least $1.2 million to Democratic-leaning groups working to defeat Bush.
Campaign records show no donations by Olson.
[snip]
Irate Republican activists began burning up the Internet with calls to boycott Slim-Fast and Internet links to send protest emails to the company and its parent, Unilever.
The anti-Slim-Fast activists also traded proposed language for protest letters and phone calls as well as information on which alternate diet shake was the best substitute.
Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt last night declined comment on Slim-Fast's move but reiterated his demand that Kerry release the video of the Bush-bashing "so Americans can see what John Kerry sees as America's heart and soul."

Wow, now I'm so confused, your post was so logical and yet I think I should reward SlimFast for their firing of Whoopi. I guess I better think about this one a little more.
Thanks for your thoughtful post.
(it was the only channel I get in the garage when working on my Rustang)
What year? My brother had a cherry '65 with a four speed, but lost it in his divorce and his ex-wife wrecked it. Little light in the rear end, but the girls loved it.
and you have every right to do as you see fit--I will join you in personnaly boycotting any company whose top execs give funds to Kerry and the lib cause to unseat our President. As a WW2 combat veteran, I am sure Kerry was an opportunist who put his crewmen in danger to get his "Purple Hearts" (3 with only a day off??)which he used to get out of the war---he would never receive my vote if a lizard was his opponent-
MontanaBeth:
By all means, thank them if you wish as that's a decent and polite thing to do, but I'm just reluctant to "reward" them. I may even send them a thank you, too, inspite of what I said earlier, but I'm going to ask for more: An apology from Abrahams himself or the boycott continues. Don't stop the pursuit once you've got the enemy on the run! Don't let them regroup! To paraphrase Geo. C. Scott in "Patton":
"We're going to hold onto Unilever by the nose! We're going to kick it in the A$$! We're going to kick the hell out of them all the time, and we're going to go through them like $hit through a goose!"
(oddly, the dollar signs above are very appropriate.)
*cue the "Patton" theme music*
I'm off to polish my pearl-handled revolvers now. Dismissed! ;-)
Excuse me...I meant my IVORY handled revolvers! *blush*
Ad I mentioned in another thread if you really look into donations from corporations most give money to BOTH the Rats and the Republicans. All large companies lobby or have some dealings with lobby groups and work with both rat and Rpublican politicians. If a company gives only to the Republicans and a rat wins the rat may award contracts or have legislation that will hurt the company.
The company I work for gives just about equally. If somone really looks into Unilever I bet somewhere along the line money is gen to Republicans. Especially with Bush in office the last 4 years.
I like your style.
Let's keep pushing for the release of that fundraiser video!
I also wanted to mention that everyone on this site has noted that Abraham has given plenty to the rats. I'm not disagreeing with that. However, has anyone posted how much Slimfast or Unilever has given to the Republicans? as a corporation?

Mine is a 64 1/2 convertible. It is a Mustang in name only. The body shell is mostly rust hence it's name Rustang.
I should have cut my losses and parted it out but I'm too far into the project to quit now.

Thanks to all those who participated in the campaign to dump Whoopi as spokesperson.
"Buying their product puts your money into hanoi john's pocket."
Exactly! I would still boycott.
I agree it is the end of her endorsements ... but we need to keep up the protests in case they ask that she is the emcee for the Oscars for instance. Republicans buy 50% of the goods and services in the US!
I am still angry with Slimfast. According to their own conflict of Interest statement on their website:
"Unilever neither supports political parties nor contributes to the funds of groups whose activities are calculated to promote party interests."
Yea, right, tell that to your President Daniel Abraham, who donated 1.2 million to the democrats.

I think Slimfast is hypocritical for firing Goldberg and not doing a thing about their own President.
And Unilever is a multinational. Chances are you will use one of their products without knowing it. Paint, wrapping paper, spring water, audiotape, plant food, computer circuits, metal alloys, dishwashing soap ... it's hard to keep track of multinationals.
Most "entertainers" if you can call them that, think that they can just voice their unadulterated political opinions without recourse. We need to let them know that by selling themselves as a spokeman for a product that they are a "commodity" ... no longer an individual allowed to run off on their own. Ask Kobe!
Beautiful day for democracy. Maybe if she had stuck with that coathanger and layed off the booze.
Moore may be in trouble in Trudeapia for breaking "their" election laws.
