NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg (news) will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush (news - web sites)'s name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.
Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.
Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards (news - web sites), in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president.
The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: "Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia."
A spokesperson for Goldberg declined immediate comment.

Bush-Cheney Ticket Leads in Edwards' Home State Likely voters in North Carolina suggest little change in voting pattern from 2000
by David W. Moore
GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
PRINCETON, NJ -- A CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey of likely voters in North Carolina shows President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney with a healthy lead over Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and his running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards in the race for the White House. While Edwards is personally quite popular among North Carolina voters, the addition of his name does not appear to give the Democratic ticket any greater appeal to the state's electorate than the Democratic candidates in 2000, when Vice President Al Gore and his running mate, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, lost to Bush and Cheney in that state by 13 points.
The poll, conducted July 9-11, three days after Kerry chose Edwards as the Democratic vice presidential candidate, shows Bush beating Kerry by six points among all registered voters in the state (49% to 43%), and by an even larger margin of 15 points among the most likely voters (54% to 39%). In both cases, independent candidate Ralph Nader and his running mate, Peter Camejo, receive 4% of the vote. In 2000, Bush won the state by a 56% to 43% margin.
Hmmmm? Is this also a backlash against the Bush-hate crowd ..?? I mean .. the dems are getting booed all over the place .. and Bush has gained 5 pts since the Moore movie came out.
Gosh, all that bad news for the Kerry/Eddy ticket.
Whoppi's vile performance and Michael Moore's hate-filled movie both failed to have the desired effect.
Drats. This could mwan "big" and I mean "big" trouble. I hear Whoppi and Moore are going on an eating binge together out of frustration.
The two Hollywarped weirdos were last seen at Whole Foods stocking up on several half-gallons Haagen Dasz Dulce de Leche, ten large bags of sour cream and onion kettle chips, a dozen boxes of mallow-mars, couple boxes assorted donuts, six BBQ chickens, five pounds of potato salad with extra mayo, and a case of diet coke.

What was the question they axed her?
Amen...
Eventually corporate America is going to wake up. You hire someone who is contraversial and guess what, you get contraversy. Tips for corporations?
1. Take back your advertising. Don't give it to some ad agency who doesn't really give a damn about your company's image.
2. Only hire the people who you would actually like to have identified with your product.
3. Only sponsor shows you would like to have associated with your product.
The biggest mistake the corporations have made is to turn over their advertising dollars to agencies who are chock full of....um.....shall we say questionable character? The result is what you see every day on TV and it's resulting in the loss of that market as parents switch off sets more and more.

Whoopie is gone and forgotten! Lets not respond by "who can we go after next?". Sounds like a witch hunt. Time to move on.

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxx ,
Thank you for contacting us recently about our use of Whoopi Goldberg, specifically regarding
her remarks made at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall. The manner in which Ms.
Goldberg chose to express her personal beliefs at this event do not reflect the views and values
of Slim·Fast Foods Company.
Slim·Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing
weight, which we applaud.
We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and
sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended you. Advertisements featuring Ms. Goldberg
will no longer be on air.
We appreciate you sharing your views with us and we hope you will continue to use Slim·Fast
as your partner in healthy weight management.
Sincerely,
Kathi Eckler
Consumer Services Manager "
I do admit to occasionally giving in and watching parts of Ghost. It seems to run on cable several times a month. Other than that, I won't watch any movie she's in or any of the Star Trek episodes. It's too bad because she is a good entertainer when she wants to be but I made that decision years ago when I had heard of her serial abortions.
Here is an email someone posted on another thread from Kathi Eckler the Consumer Services Manager at Slim Fast.
We don't deserve to have to watch, though! :)
