Slim-Fast Sheds Whoopi Goldberg After Bush Riff
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush's name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.
Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.
Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president.
The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: "Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia."
A spokesperson for Goldberg declined immediate comment.
Slim-Fast is a unit of Anglo-Dutch food-to-detergent group Unilever Plc .

I would have to say that in light of their quick action, that the weather in hell was a bit nippy today.
Send a thank you to slim fast!
Now maybe they can get a spokesman that isn't fat and ugly. (and they need to fire the person who hired her in the first place. What were they thinking?)
I can't remember her schtick because, to tell you the truth, I've never found anything that womyn's done to be remotely funny, so hence very forgettable. I've always thought Whoopi Goldberg was a no-talent hack who only made it in show business because she was a black woman. She is a glaring example of the failure of affirmative-action.
PING!
We did it!
Freedom of speech with capitolistic consequences.

don't think we did so good...she probably got bought out of her contract at face value..meaning she gets paid for being a lard assed slut for dnc.
and doing NO work for the money!!!
No! Heinz is a very Republican company, and they have nothing to do with the Kerry camp. The Kerrys own a very small minority share of the company, but the CEO and other top dogs give to our guys. Hurting Heinz won't hurt anyone but us.
I wonder if MoveOn.org has the people power to counter our activist prowess on this issue. I doubt it. MoveOn.org is nothing but a paper tiger.
Deborah Orin
You may be correct, but it's still a public slap in the face to her and a victory for our side.
Fantastic news! It's amazing what we can do as people who band together. This is so encouraging.
WooHoo!!! we did it! way to go Freepers, you don't mess with Freepers!
I expect it's just a matter of time before her and her buddies will be out shrieking about Bush nazis stifling free speech and creating a new blacklist, not ever once grasping the concept of the free market.
I emailed 'em too. Told them that while their company's product was good, their choice of a spokeswoman was disastrous. Told them that anyone advertising their product should be a LADY, and Whoopi Goldberg was NOT. Their customers would vanish if she were kept on.
I'm afraid to even ask what that is supposed to be.
