Slim-Fast Sheds Whoopi Goldberg After Bush Riff

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush's name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.

Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.

Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president.

The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: "Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia."

A spokesperson for Goldberg declined immediate comment.

Slim-Fast is a unit of Anglo-Dutch food-to-detergent group Unilever Plc .

Slim-Fast is starting to buckle under $1.2 BILLION dollars of pressure!

The weight loss giant is apparently reacting to a huge backlash from consumers, and worried investors, after their spokesperson, Whoopi Goldberg, lobbed vulgar obscenities at President Bush this weekend. John Kerry failed to condemn those attacks supposedly because the event brought in $7.5 Million for the Democrats. Instead, Kerry praised the celebrities for conveying "the heart and soul of our country."

The parent company, Unilever [trading symbol UN] was referring all correspondence and complaints about Goldberg's hate-speech, to Slim-Fast's marketing dept. A great many angry conservatives also reported, their successes in reaching sympathetic ears at Slim-Fast: (I just received a call from Slimfast), and (Goodbye Slimfast!).

Wall Street has noticed, as Neil Cavuto reported yesterday; the 2% drop in Unilever's stock price Tuesday was attributed a new Conservative boycott of its subsidiary Slim-Fast.

That amounts to a one-day LOSS of $1.2 BILLION dollars for shareholders!

Statement from Terry Olson, Slim-Fast, General Manager and Vice President of Marketing

Wednesday July 14, 4:37 pm ET

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- We at Slim-Fast trust the public understands that the way in which Whoopi Goldberg chose to express her own personal beliefs at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall does not reflect the views and values of Slim-Fast. Slim-Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing weight, which we applaud. We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended some of our consumers. Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air.

That is a good way to do it. They have acted responsible so far. I'm impressed.

Thanks

Dub

Part of the story was mistakenly deleted...

"When notified that we pulled her ads, and that we wouldn't pay her any more money, Ms. Goldberg replied, 'WHAT? YOU MOTHER******* SUNSA******* SH*******!! I'm calling my lawyers! FREEPIN' SUNSA*******!!!'"

I love that cartoon, and don't mind seeing it again and
again. I wonder how many U.S. newspapers had the guts
to print it?

I remember first seeing her on some HBO special back in the mid 80's.

Was that the one where she mimed Ronald Reagan unzipping his pants and, let's say, "having his way" with the farmers? I believe that special also had her idiotic rants against the Stealth Bomber. "How will they find it when it's parked?" I like my humor based in reality, Whoop, and that was old when it related to Wonder Woman.

The REALLY sad part of all this is now, Whoopi will
certainly get a part in a C-grade movie;

It will play in the theaters for about 3 weeks;

AND she will be given an OSCAR for her performance!

MeekOne asked you to post something. I'd advise you to do what you're doing: observe the enemy encampment, and fire two warning shots if they're coming over the rise. :)

All it says is that her ads on't be playing. They did not say they had broken her contract or weren't going to be paying her. This is an easy out for them. After all, the ad campaign using her was nearing a close. She's laughing all the way to the bank!

Maybe now the overpaid, under-brained Hollywood crew whose careers have swooned to the "spokesperson" level will start to realize they may pay a price for "speaking out". And maybe American businesses will start to figure out that wacky leftist "entertainers" may not be the best individuals to hawk their products. Well, I can hope.

I believe that you are 100% right.

These Cos that use this type people in their adds better straighten up and be careful who they pick, IMO.

If we could just unite we could accomplish so much! Look what the gays manage to do with only 2% to 9% of the population, not to mention the disproportionate influence of other minority groups.

Conservatives unite! and let your voice be heard.
