NEWS FLASH: Ditka storms out of meeting

Wednesday, July 14, 2004

By The Leader-Chicago Bureau CHICAGO -- This morning in downtown Chicago, Mike Ditka left a secret meeting with IL GOP decision makers, angered about the media being tipped off.

Ditka was to meet with members of the IL GOP State Central Committee and to speak via conference call with national level Republicans.

As word of the meeting leaked out to the press, Ditka reportedly was angered when met by reporters, exited the meeting promptly and hopped into his black Escalade, and left, obviously upset.

Matt Drudge reported this morning that an announcement would be made at 9:30 am.

No word as to the ensuing discussion among state central committee members left at the meeting, which is still going on.

Ditka's willingness to take on the candidacy may be in doubt now.

Developing story . . .

Does this mean we've got a number of former Bears-coached-by-Ditka fans out there? Lots of freepers who want a Republican to defeat Obama? People who respect men who make up their minds and stick to it, and who can take the subsequent attempts by the press to bring them down?

I think United States Senator is not for the guy who pulled the trigger on the trade deal and draft that got them Ricky Williams... god only knows what kind of bonehead moves he'd make in the Senate.

I wonder if Da Coach hadn't yet made up his mind, and some idiot in the Illinois GOP wanted to force his hand.

Driving back from Louisiana yesterday, I heard a sports commentator quoting a former [now deceased] Saints GM about Ditka:

"Ready, Fire, Aim!"

The GOP should run him probably because he is their only shot at this seat and it will cause some that did not to identify with the GOP. But he will certainly not be a standard Senator. Of course if he punched Leahy, it is not like he would have raised a weapon against him which I believe has happen in the US Capitol in history.

With emotional control such as that it is best he not try to run for public office.

Oh, I disagree. He should just be running for the Dems (a la Hillary, Terry McAuliffe, the Impeached Rapist...).

Sounds like Ditka wants to do things his way without the Ill GOP tripping him up every two seconds. How much you wanna bet it was LaHood or one of the other RINOscum who made sure the media would be there waiting for him?

Yep.... as much as we may like Ditka... he isn't geared for being a United States Senator. Imagine the first time he walks in the place and realizes his office isn't as big as the senior member's offices? Or the first time some other Senator says something disparaging about him or his ideas on the floor of the Senate.

Didn't want you to miss this thread.

Having read the entire thread, I'm hoping Ole' Mike is just putting the Central Committee in their place and will come back at a later time to announce.

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter how loose his cannon is,, we need the Pubbie in that seat in the Senate. Even one term is better than nothing!

I suspect the residents of Illinois are accustomed to Mike's outbursts and will not be taken back by his bad boy behavior with the press & the Central Committee.

Levitra™ may cause anxiety and mood swings when meeting with political operatives. Ask your doctor if Levitra™ is right for you.
