I agree but when they started confiring Knighthood on such rubbish as "The Beetles" instead of on people who distinguished themselves in science, warfare, and other significant fields, they opened the gates for this situation.

Perosnally, I think England could use somebody like William the Conqueror or Edward I right now to clean up some the leftist scum there.

Its a shame that a nation which produced the heros of Agincourt, Waterloo, Victorian times, Dunkirk, etc, has fallen under the control of such craven rascals.

Abolish it before we hear those dreaded words - "I dub thee Sir Bill Clinton".

Yes, the proscription on Americans accepting such honors would hardly deter him.

Hell, I'd die a happy woman right now if I could be assured that no pretentious lawyers would never, never again be allowed to call themselves "Esquire."

Note to lurking lawyers: if you are a) British and b) a landowner, then you may refer to yourself as Esquire. Both conditions MUST be met.

If you are not a British landowner, you may NOT call yourself Esquire, on pain of deadly mockery.

As if "Blair awarding honours to the entire England rugby team after they won last year's World Cup" somehow upholds centuries of British history and tradition.

Americans are not supposed to accept knighthood (since it is allegiance to another country).

I say, no knighthoods unless you are willing to suit up and joust for it.

Hey they even gave one to an Irish man - Sir Bob Geldof!

Bob's a roaring leftie, but I did get a kick out of reading his comments recently in the Guardian.

"You'll think I'm off my trolley when I say this, but the Bush administration is the most radical - in a positive sense - in its approach to Africa since Kennedy," Mr Geldof, who organised the 1985 Live Aid fund raising concert for Ethiopia, told Britain's Guardian newspaper.

In contrast to the European Union's "pathetic and appalling" response, Sir Bob said neo-conservatives and religious right-wingers who surround the US president are proving unexpectedly helpful.

Former president Bill Clinton had not helped Africa much, despite his high-profile visits and apparent empathy with the downtrodden, Mr Geldof said. (From the BBC website)

"Sir Elton John."

Need I say more?

Pity, though.

Sir Paul McCartney.........

IIRC, the Beatles got some "award" for bringing in tonne of money to the UK. All the WWII veterns that also received the
"award" sent them back in. I wonder if they considered the tax pounds contributed to the pensioners?
