The National Lawyers Guild, founded in 1937, is an association of lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers dedicated to the proposition that human rights are more important than property rights.
The Mass Defense Committee of the NLG-NYC Chapter, which has been providing legal observers and lawyers for activists since 1968, is proud to offer its depth of experience and knowledge to activists organizing events surrounding the Republican National Convention this summer in New York City. We can be contacted at:

The Committee is coordinating its efforts to provide RNC Mass Defense legal support with the Peoples Law Collective, the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the New York Civil Liberties Union.
ATTORNEYS
We are actively recruiting lawyers to provide pro-bono (free) legal representation. Ideally, we will find enough pro-bono lawyers to represent everyone who may be arrested at protests during the Convention. However, given the possibility of unprecedented numbers of arrests, we cannot guarantee we will be able to recruit enough lawyers to volunteer. That is why the Guild is also recruiting lawyers who would be willing to provide legal representation at low bono (substantially reduced) rates. In light of this, activists may want to make some contingency legal defense fundraising plans.
If you are a lawyer interested in helping out, please download our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format), and mail or fax it to:

If you are a lawyer and are interested in helping, but you do not have criminal defense experience, we will be offering CLE trainings this summer. Fill out and send us the our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format) and watch our Calendar for upcoming trainings.

I have two digital cameras so I could risk one, and I've got my old laptop that's on it's last legs but still servicible. I could throw pics up on my FTP server and give someone access to post them, but I think the hard part will be finding internet access during the melee.
I'd just hate to see "our" guys being misidentified by LE or other decent people that may be attacked by the scum and need to defend themselves.
Would pics from "near" the action come out well enough to be used?
That old saying about omelets and broken eggs... sometimes patriots need to volunteer themselves to become the broken eggs.
Another good strategy in threatening environments is basically posting lookouts. In contact by cell, have numbers for authorities handy, able to contact backup witnesses quickly. We had to do this during the 2000 election protests. Getting a sympathetic radio personality to do live broadcasts is great exposure and assures a certain police presence. We also had livecam internet. (But you'd need a technogeek for that!)
Chicago 1968 was the Dem convention.
The National Lawyers Guild is a communist organization which spawned MoveOn.org and of which Lynne Stewart is the most notable name.
Just wear your grubbiest clothes and don't shave or shower for a few days before the events and you will blend right in. Oh, if the police tell you to move it, then move it as fast as you can.
A clear field of fire so there's no "collateral" damage would be nice.
If a mob attacked me,I'd defend myself.I'd also consider the entire mob as fair targets.
Getting good shots of their facial features is great.I've always been a head shooter. :)
Excellent angle. I agree. Campaign Bush should begin the mantra now calling for Kerry to call off the goons. If done well it becomes a no-win for Kerry and Bush can't lose. The worst possible outcome is the goons behave and they accuse Bush of being a Chicken Little. That's a lot better than riots at your convention.
I hope NY Freepers are ready for this....
You know, I've signed up to be a volunteer at the convention (already endured the first orientation session), but if they're going to bring the city to a halt and make it so that I can't get to the convention...well, I'm just going to take a big glass of iced tea, a good book, my CD Walkman and my cell phone down to one of the outside decks at my apartment building and wait them out.
Of course, I might feel compelled to kick their asses, due to the fact that their antics are costing me and my fellow New Yorkers untold tax $$$ that we can't afford.
I truly resent that their putative "freedom of speech" costs *MY* money!
God Bless your son. I'll bet that he's prepared to do some serious damage on these animals. Any Marines in the audience who'd like to 'mingle' with the protestors...? I'd bet a whole lot of Semper Fi Americans would enjoy... Well you know. Night all!
Rove will likely fear that calling for this will upset the "new tone". He'll look for Rush or Hannity to call for it.
we had better get on offense, real fast. time is running out.
It's also going to hurt this city and leave us incredibly vulnerable to terrorist attacks. One thing that I read was that they *want* to pull pranks that will wear down the bomb-sniffing dogs, which will render them useless.
Pathetic that they no longer even try to hide the fact that they are rooting for the islamofascist terrorists to win and defeat us!
G-d bless your son!
i've heard from a friend that alot of people are not being called back - depending on what you say you are willing to do, they mostly need people for transportation to/from airports to hotels, etc.
I'd encourage you to hold your post. We're going to need you there.
Well, we shall see...I also anticipate having access to much of the convention via other means. ;)
