he doctor who regularly vouched for Vice President Dick Cheney's good health had a secret debilitation of his own a grievous addiction to prescription drugs that has recently been thoroughly aired in public. Unfortunately, we now know a lot about the medical history of Dr. Gary Malakoff but very little about that of his patient, the vice president.
Skimpy, upbeat generalizations have always been offered about Mr. Cheney, who has a history of heart ailments and complex ongoing treatment. In contrast, President Bush, by all accounts a picture of health, has released full details about his own checkups.
In the face of Dr. Malakoff's failings, candor is more urgent than ever from Mr. Cheney. Even as Dr. Malakoff pronounced his patient "up to the task of the most sensitive public office" four years ago, the doctor was spending tens of thousands of dollars on his addiction and making hollow promises of rehabilitation to colleagues.
Dr. Malakoff has been dropped as Mr. Cheney's personal internist. The vice president reportedly has known about the doctor's five-year struggle with addiction but has no concerns about the care he received, according to his press office.
The favorable summaries may have been the best collective judgment of a team of doctors, including cardiologists, but Dr. Malakoff was the lead doctor offering ringing reassurances about Mr. Cheney's health. In retrospect, voters are entitled to question the rosy prognoses. The vice president must put aside his obsession with secrecy and finally offer a detailed report on his medical history. For that matter, so should Senator John Kerry, who has not yet fulfilled promises to release his own records.
Boy, do they hate Cheney. Actually, that should be, "are they scared of" Cheney. There's a concerted attack going on to get rid of him.
did they ever ask the Toon to release his records?
It's about time they mentioned Kerry. If the media is going to harp on Cheney's medical condition then they better start harping on Kerry's condition. Actually if you look at the two side by side Kerry looks like the walking dead compared to Cheney who looks pretty darn good!
I think it was required when Bubba was president. But I am not sure.
If I am not mistaken, he never released them
You're not mistaken.
"did they ever ask the Toon to release his records"?
If I remember correctly, he NEVER did. He also fired (shortly after being sworn into office), the long-time Whitehouse Doc. He brought in his "Arkansas Physician". He only released medical info on his knee surgery, and annual exams etc.
Speculation was that it contained info on STD's, and drug abuse.
LLS
I thought so.
KERRY..PUT YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS OUT THERE.
I had lunch today with a prominent Washington lobbyist who said the word is that Kerry won't release his records because of the Botox treatments.
Uh...no.
Clinton refused and that was that. God forbid that the voters find out he'd been addicted to coke and had had repeated bouts of sexually transmitted diseases.
Yup. Botox and face lifts...brow lifts? Whatever. He's plastic man.
Did the NY Times EVER demand Bill Clinton (candidate or President) should release his medical records? They never were.
It is not just the Botox Treatments that keeps Kerry from Releasing his Medical Records, it is the Treatment he had for prostrate Cancer too.
Here we go again. It's like the lefties play musical chairs. They must have a calendar with names they are going to go after in a concerted effort that particular day.
I am sure this is a DNC talking point. I wonder if they go in alphabetical order as to whose turn it is?
They are pathetic.
Why would that make a difference? He'D probably get votes for at least being honest!! (about something) LOL
