Ron Reagan says Kerry's first act would be EO to reverse Bush stem cell policy
Hardball | July 12, 2004

He just announced this on Hardball; he said that Kerry told him this personally on the phone while they were discussing Reagan's appearance at the Democratic Convention that his first act in office if he's elected will be to sign an executive order to reverse Bush's stem cell policy.

I assume you're referring to Ronny "Twinkle-Toes" Reagan,
the dimwitted dancing Socialist who, without his father's name would currently be sweeping out a Popeye's Chicken.
An a-hole of the first magnitude. Then you realize that that the entire Dem party is made up of these "Nancy" boys!
Good Riddance!

I saw this! Then was away from computer but had wanted to comment so am glad to see this thread.

My first thought was pity that Ron Reagan would believe Kerry.

Not saying Kerry wouldn't sign such a thing, but I can imagine Kerry telling everybody that their special interest is the first matter he would attend to upon taking office.

I've read that Jane Wyman became very religious after her marriage post-Reagan failed. Maybe there was some influence there that made a difference (although Michael indicated in his eulogy he came by his religious faith through his dad). It's kind of interesting the children from Reagan's failed marriage seemed to turn out as such solid citizens (despite early failed marriages) than the children of his long-term happy marriage. Go figure.

I heard somewhere that Nancy OK'd Buckley taking Ron to task -- the end of Novak's column seems to confirm this. Interesting. I wasn't clear if Novak was quoting a personal exchange Buckley had with Ron or a column by Buckley (I couldn't find such a column by Buckley in a Google News search).

Although she approves of stem cell research -- despite what seems to me clear evidence her husband would never have approved same (William Casey wrote a great column on that) -- I wonder how she feels about Ron appearing at the Democratic Convention on this issue, after his slams of the President in his eulogy and on CNN.

Private pharma is busy trying to make new drugs. They don't have the money, time or compulsion to do basic reasearch and understandably so.

There is plenty of embryonic stem cell research being done in private universities and in some public universities. Ethical and moral considerations aside (and I don't mean they aren't important - they are) I think someone earlier hit on the reason that pro stem cell types want the research "legitimized" is because they want masses of more dollars from your pocket and mine to put into the research.

You can understand their point of view. They don't see the fetus as a human life so they see nothing wrong with growing embryos for stem cell research. They don't see frozen embryos left over from couples' attempts at in vitro fertilization as living beings, so they would rather see them go to research rather than get flushed down the sink. If you do away with finite rules of morality, it's easy to see their justifications. I'm just not willing to do away with the finite rules of morality. And I don't think Ronald Wilson Reagan would either - EVEN IF it had saved him from Alzheimers.

Orin Hatch said that if the dems push stem cell research as a political issue it will set it back for years even though Orin supports it.

Edward is Kerry's fabric softener?

Mathews mocking Kerry's biting of his lip.

Mathews brought up an interesting point. Sen. Kerry has recently said that life begins at conception. So if you do research on embryos, aren't you experimenting on a human being?

Hmmmmm .. Any chance Kerry will be having any more town meetings with Q & A time???

Maybe some one could ask .. cause you know the Reporters won't

Great point. I don't think a speaker at the Dem Convention belongs on the MSNBC payroll as an election commentator. He's got a stake way beyond someone who's a "Democrat consultant" or whatever.

I wonder why Ron Reagan doesn't put his money where his mouth is and fund his own research instead of asking the American people to pay for it?

Liberals? Pay? Ha!

What we also need is film of that NY fundraiser released. It sounds like it was a real over-the-top "Wellstone moment" which would repulse much of the general public.

Here's a brief, but biting excerpt from the "open letter" from W.F. Buckley to Ron Reagan:

RR Jr.: His father ''worked hard to impress upon his children the value of kindness.''

WFB: ''If he did, he was manifestly unsuccessful.''

Wow. Great point. And one that Kerry needs to be hit with, HARD.

And he'll mention Nancy's name every chance he can

...and the heartbreaking details of his father's deterioration, and other emotional appeals. Everything except the scientific data to support the funding for research.
