A Dime's Worth Of Difference? (Liberal Republicans Say "NON!" To Tax Cuts)
OpinionJournal.com ^ | 7/11/04 | Pete Du Pont

An important and serious argument is going on in Washington about whether taxes on Americans' incomes should stay where they are or dramatically rise, and whether government spending should continue its accelerating growth. We know what Democrats think. They despise tax cuts and believe government spending should be higher. Washington Republicans, on the other hand, are unsure of themselves. They used to be for lower taxes and smaller government; now they seem to want bigger spending even if it means higher taxes, abandoning Reagan conservatism for '60s liberalism. In other words, this is a battle for the heart of the Republican Party; the outcome matters, and it seems to be in doubt. With the help of three liberal Republicans (Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island), and one who should know better (John McCain of Arizona), the Senate, with 51 votes, adopted a rule that if passed in the House will end all the Bush tax cuts and ensure that no new ones are enacted.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggg!

It's the buildyourdownburgesrs,no,the tracts,noooooooooooo,it's those pesky JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOISH bankers,err...the Swiss gnomes,the,the,the.......

Look Mr./Miss/Mrs. tinfoil, gold is easier to do damage to than paper money;always has been.

Cornering the bullion markets has always been the game to play too.Just because the Hunt brothers made a hash out of the silver thingy, doesn't mean that if we went back on the gold market,it wouldn't happen again.

Being on the gold standard is NOT a panacea, nor even a stabilizing influence.

Do everybody a favor and go do some research;real research about the past several hundred years of American economy, trends, counterfeiting, coin shaving,PANICS,DEPRESSIONS,BUBBLES,and the like. :-)

Save up your anger for the 2008 primaries, or send money to the Club for Growth, who funds conservative candidates in races (mainly primaries) across the nation. Their "RINO Watch" at thier website is pretty nice. They've been pretty successful, being recognized by many as being a key player in getting DeMint to win his senate Primary.

Facts DO matter!

Our currency WAS,in point of fact, backed by gold and silver after FDR removed gold coinage.Go look at some old bills.

Inflation WAS rampant,in many times past, WHEN OUR CURRENCY WAS BACKED BY GOLD!

It really DOES help one,to know factual history;learn some!

Goodnight and be gentle to these poor souls who have no clue what your experience is in currency and markets ;-)

I totally agree. I don't see why the constitution or libertarian parties don't put all thier effortsinto getting a single block of Reps. in a single legislature like Texas, Oklahoma, or SC to make a statement.

A ratty old parachute (Bush)
A fine French bedsheet that sorta looks like a parachute (Kerry)
A sales brochure for the perfect parachute (third party)

...brother, those are your options.

LOL ...As usual, telling it like it is.
I think the military votes should be the only ones counted.
You guys are putting your life on the line every single day for us. You should determine Bush's job status.

I honestly like President Bush, as a person and as a leader.

Earlier today, I ran across a minute long commercial for Fahrenheit 9/11 on TV. Out of nothing more than morbid curiosity I threw away sixty seconds of my life and watched. What really struck me is that every time Bush was shown, it was a scene of him being funny. It was presented in a way to give the impression that he's not very bright, or perhaps a pawn of big, evil corporations.

Despite the clever editing, I found myself laughing with Bush, not at him. Did I ever feel dumb! I couldn't even follow along with the spoon fed anti-Bush propaganda. I must just be a slow learner.

Or maybe I know something liberals don't. For whatever bad you could say about the President, he's a very genuine person. If you show a tape of him while he's being witty and charming, you simply can't edit that out. At best, you can present it as sinister and insincere, but for that to succeed relies on the naivete of the individual viewer.

Anyone who can't see his way past F/911s emotional insincerities wouldn't stand a chance of seeing his way past any intellectual ones. Regardless of what you think of his policies, Bush is a good man. If you can't see that for yourself, you'll probably believe anything bad about him.

Government has become too much in your face. We need them to do their job. Insure our sovereignty, and protect the Constitution. We need to be proud to be American once more. That is what Mr. Reagan would have wanted.

>>>You have not made any effort to discuss issues. You have spent your time calling names and making rather strange comments. "Defend the indefensible"? To what do you refer?

Read the entire thread and follow the post backwards. You'll find the answers, if thats what you seek. It would appear you don't really want to debate the issues. You want to be purposely argumentative about something you had nothing to do with.

Ronald Reagan was a political conservative. He wasn't a pragmatist, per se. Pure pragmatists make lousy politicians. Reagan was a superior politician, because he was able to mix the values of a principled conservative, with the desires of a pragmatic politician.

>>>Go ahead vote for any third party that you want to...I suspect that is what you have done for years.

You're wrong. Never voted for any third party. My tag line is quite clear. You need to cool your jets, bucko.

The fact we are at war, is a fact of life right now. What that has to do with the subject matter of this thread is beyond me. In the future find someone else to go off on.

South40, I just noticed the source (following URL address) of the charts you posted and don't really care for it at all.

"The Farcical Fools at Free Republic" (source site of South40's charts)
http://www.sentryoveramerica.com/FarcicalFoolsatFreeRepublicIssue1.htm

It's a nasty site with a nasty agenda.

The site owner uses an anonymous domain registration, has some really nasty things to say about Jim Robinson and wrote the following, among other idiotic statements.

"So, I had to point out the facts to the newly crowned 'queen of Sheba' that Al Gore received 550,520 more popular votes than GWB."

The affiliations of "sentryoveramerica" are obvious.

How exactly is it "easier" for government to devalue gold than it is to print paper rectangles?

The only way to lower the price of gold is to restrict the money supply...shut down the printing presses and reduce the number of dollars in circulation.

In case you haven't noticed, the opposite is happening today. When you increase the amount of anything in circulation, its value drops.

Government can't print gold.
