A Dime's Worth Of Difference? (Liberal Republicans Say "NON!" To Tax Cuts)
OpinionJournal.com ^ | 7/11/04 | Pete Du Pont

An important and serious argument is going on in Washington about whether taxes on Americans' incomes should stay where they are or dramatically rise, and whether government spending should continue its accelerating growth. We know what Democrats think. They despise tax cuts and believe government spending should be higher. Washington Republicans, on the other hand, are unsure of themselves. They used to be for lower taxes and smaller government; now they seem to want bigger spending even if it means higher taxes, abandoning Reagan conservatism for '60s liberalism. In other words, this is a battle for the heart of the Republican Party; the outcome matters, and it seems to be in doubt. With the help of three liberal Republicans (Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island), and one who should know better (John McCain of Arizona), the Senate, with 51 votes, adopted a rule that if passed in the House will end all the Bush tax cuts and ensure that no new ones are enacted.

I can't follow your gibberish. You're not making a bit of sense. And you've not attempted to discuss the subject matter of this thread. Period.

AND EXACTLY what freedoms have been curtailed? Clinton had no Patriot Act on his desk...he didn't want one because he considered it a criminal offense not a WAR. We are at WAR...in case you hadn't noticed...please get your head out of the sand and quit sounding like all the nice Europeans who thought that Hitler wasn't a problem either.

RM is usually "upset" about Arnold
who isn't his governor. ROTFL!

I am so very pleased Arnold will have
a primetime speaking role at the convention
if only to upset RM, whom, you have handled
with ease.

If you want Bush to be more conservative then elect some people to the congress who will pass the legislation needed to make the country more conservative. The president in all reality has little to do with domestic spending and only slightly more for foreign policy EXCEPT in a time of war which is what we are in. WE are at WAR....got it yet?

He is no conservative.

He's gloriously conservative but leading a country that is half red, for heaven's sake. If he governs radically to the right then we hand the second term over to the left. I have full confidence that Bush's second term will see more of the reductions in government spending and size that you are looking for.

>>... poisonous joy-ride...

I don't know what your talking about.

I discussed the future of the GOP as it relates to political conservatism. I discussed the possible ticket of Owens-Santorum in 2008. And several other matters. In my book that is far from your ridiculous assertion of a poisonous joyride. Silly girl.

>>>You have vicious leftie debate tactics down to an art form, dear, and this thread is case in point.

Is that right? Look, don't get angry with me because you're upset with yourself. And fabricating your own reality won't do you any good either.

What's facetious is the idea of expecting to receive a tax refund, based on how much the government is adhering to the Constitution.

What's not facetious, and ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS, is the utter necessity of having a gold-linked currency, exactly as the Constitution requires.

Don't blame Bish the president ( in case you forgot the constitution) neither initiates nor spends any of the monetary legislation that occurs...the house and the senate are the key...time to elect conservatives there

So a tax decrease is out of the question?
