Besides the small towns, history of being ignored by pols, and social conservatives, here's why the UP tour is so important.

UP - Bush 50.61%, Gore 45.95% with 138812 votes - First GOP'er to win since 84 Reagan(I THINK Dukakis won it)
Alger County (Munsing) - Bush 49.06, Gore 47.43 (Granholm won)
Baraga County (L'anse) - Bush 54.11, 41.26% (Granholm won)
Chippewa County (Sault Ste Marie) - Bush 52.43%, 44.38% (Granhom Won)
Delta County (Escanaba) - Bush 51.23%, 46.03% (Granholm won)
Dickinson County (Iron Mtn) - Bush 54.02, 43.12%
Gogebic County (Ironwood) - Gore 48.78%, Bush 47.10% (Granholm won with 57%)
Houghton County(Houghton) - Bush 55.54, Gore 40.01
Iron County (Iron River) - Gore 48.71%, Bush 47.95% (Granholm won with 53.51%)
Keweenaw County (Copper Harbor) - Bush 55.10, Gore 40.21
Luce County (Newberry) - Bush 58.36%, Gore 37.70% (Granholm won it)
Mackinac County (St. Ignace) - Bush 54.81%, Gore 42.43%
Marquette County (Marquette and Ishpeming) - Gore 53.13%, Bush 43.10% (Granholm got 57.69% here)
Menominee County (Menominee) - Bush 52.99, Gore 44.06
Onontagon County (Ontonagon) - Bush 59.55, Gore 36.47 (Granholm held Posthumus to 49.61%)
Schoolcraft County (Manistique) - Bush 49.74%, Gore 48.50% (Granholm won it, and it's normally dem)

This is a very important battle ground. There are not a big number of votes there, but Mike Cox won his last race by 5000 votes. John Engler won his first race by 17000.

If he pushes each of those to over 60+% he will carry Michigan. And he is doing the right thing in coming up here as us folks remember those who remember us.

Not to interfere in the American election but..... I note the figures for Luce County. 58.36 for GWB and 37.70 for Senator Gore. Yes, I will enjoy my annual trip to the UP's splendid Tahquamenon Falls coming up. This will include a visit to the bear park at Newberry- Luce County; for my grand daughters to enjoy. Bears roam at will in natural surroundings.

Silent, I will keep in mind though, that I am in loyalist country. Cheers.

Can either of you point to a recent voter registration breakdown by party in MI? I could not find it on the SOS/election website for MI. I am interested in knowing how the registration today compares to that in 2000 (%R vs %D vs %Ind.).

How did I miss this yesterday? Thanks for posting it.

Houghton County(Houghton) - Bush 55.54, Gore 40.01 ................this would be my county. :-)

The Mining Journal of Marquette has an article yesterday quoting some of the protestors who plan to show up. One of them - "I don't know why he would come here," Killough said. "This is a strong Democrat, union stronghold. This is an area that has suffered economically under his term. I don't know what they hope to accomplish." This person must not know how well GWB did in the U.P. last time, & is thinking only of Marquette.

The 5000 tickets issued initially were snapped up in 2 hours time on Friday so 6000 more got distributed yesterday. Can't wait for tomorrow! Wonder how early one has to be to get a good seat.

Shoot, that's alittle far to go for a rally. Would be cool, though.

Tell Mr. Bush "hello" from the Michigan Trolls.
