One of the host of the John Batchlor ABC radio show just announced that there appears to be a report coming from Libya in Septmenmber that Saddam's WMD did exist and were being developed there, and that's why they weren't found in Iraq....
Post GOP convention bounce and people will actually be paying attention to the '04 election finally. Timing is everything.
bttt and thanks to all for the additional info and links
Libya!!
Man ! If TRUE, this is great ! haha !
It would certainly explain why Libya decided to roll over! LOL! No doubt they thought the truth would come out with the fall of Iraq, and they would jump to number one on the target list. Better to roll over and become a hero.
Why are they waiting to release it in September?
The greater question is what Kaddafy wants in return for vindicating the Bush and Blair administrations, I think.
And Libya wants Bush to win? I don't buy it.
Maybe we have him in a hammerlock!!!
Right around his scrawny neck!!!
Maybe this is why Libya got out of the WMD business right away .. and I believe the comment was .. "I saw what the USA did to Saddam and I was afraid". Surely Libya knew they were one on a list of NEXT!
indeed....they knew about the connection and probably wanted to get ahead of it...
If the Democrats (and moderate Republicans) successfully call for nomination of a new CIA director, it has to be approved by the Senate. That can shift the attention away from the WH to the Senate. The Democratic candidates are both Senators and their party can Bork anything that's nominated between now and the end of time on live television.
Plus, John Edwards is a sitting member of the Senate Intelligence commitee that oversees the initial hearing. That's a lot of free air time in a CFR-regulated world.
Bookmarked and Bumped. Great thread. I love watching history in the making.
Zowie!
There also is information, if I recall, about nuclear information in CHinese found in Libya. It didn't get much press. From Clinton to China to Libya to Iraq. How quaint. /sarc.
Monica Crowley talking about this now on WABC radio in NYC.
If the "hollowed out mountain" and the scientists and potentially the uranium were all in Libya, then why didn't we go into Libya rather than Iraq?
(I haven't read the full thread yet, so perhaps this has already been addressed.)
Bump for Reference
Peach, if you are going to keep a file on Libya/Iraq/WMD connection, please put me on your PING list for any new developments.
Finally the "Ali Sobree" that was mentioned by Loftus must be Naji Sabri Ahmad al-Hadithi
Here's what is written about him at:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/iraq/sabri.htm
Dr. Naji Sabri, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was Ambassador of Iraq to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and to the United Nations Office (Vienna) during 1999-2001. On April 18, 2001, he was appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and on August 4, 2001 he was named Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Note the underlined; quite a coincidence isn't it?
Further biographical notes from Online Newshour:
Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri Ahmad al-Hadithi's primary role is leading Iraq's diplomatic efforts to weaken support for a possible U.S. military attack. He has continued to lobby permanent United Nations Security Council members as part of Baghdad's efforts to shore up international support, including visits to Russia and China. Sabri has also met with a delegation from India and the 22-member Arab League.
He has also spearheaded efforts to reach out to former enemies in an effort to find new allies against the U.S. During a five-day meeting in January 2002 in Iran, once Iraq's central foe, he told Iranian President Mohammad Khatami that U.S. behavior "is not just a threat to us, but a threat to the Islamic world."
Sabri has been part of the ongoing high-level talks with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and chief U.N. weapons inspector Dr. Hans Blix. And it was Sabri, along with Arab League chief Amr Moussa, who delivered the letter in September from the Iraqi government to Annan saying Saddam Hussein would allow weapons inspectors back into Iraq.
Sabri was appointed Foreign Minister last year. A member of a historically powerful family, he holds a doctorate in English literature. During the Gulf War, he was Deputy Information Minister and, at one time, ran Iraq's press office in London. Before his appointment, he served as an ambassador to Austria.
Sabri is considered more of a technocrat than a political leader. Some view him as an interim figure in the Hussein cabinet though he is said to be close friends with Saddam's younger son, Qusay.
