For the Record: Presidential Politics and the Two Tickets’ Net Worth

For the Record: Presidential Politics and the Two Tickets’ Net Worth

This morning, on Fox News’ “Cashing In” show (broadcast every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. eastern time), the following combined net worths of the two presidential tickets were published:

Bush/Cheney: $65 million

Kerry/Edwards: $1.7 billion

Breaking down these figures, based on statutory financial disclosure statements, George and Laura Bush have an estimated net worth of $12 million; Dick and Lynn Cheney, $53 million.

According to his last financial statements filed in 2000, John Edwards’ net worth is approximately $70 million. Do the math: That indicates the estimated net worth of John Kerry is $1.63 billion. Truly, he’s the richest man in the Senate, by a long shot. (The top 5 wealthiest senators are all Democrats. Go figure.)

On Fox’s ranking, George Bush is the poor man in this race. It’s important to note that Dick Cheney no longer has any connection to the demonized Halliburton, and hasn’t had any for years now; he doesn’t even sit on its board. Neither Bush nor Cheney sits on any corporate board in America, which service is prohibited to sitting presidents and vice presidents; and yet the Dims insist Bush/Cheney runs the government for the benefit of their corporate friends, and are enriching themselves personally in the process. The fact that their financial holdings by law are required to be held in a blind trust, under an independent trustee during their tenure of office, seemingly makes no impression whatever on an increasingly deluded public.

Certainly it makes no impression on the howling mob that showed up celebrate those icons of mainstream American values, Whoopi Goldberg and friends at Radio City Music Hall the other night; or those lining up for tickets to see Michael Moore’s puerile and thoroughly mendacious, mindless piece of propaganda/drivel, “Fahrenheit 911.”

As for the other ticket, John Edwards made his bones mainly suing doctors. The recent astronomical increase in the cost of healthcare in America is largely the result of ambulance chasers like Edwards. And the “little guy” is the one most severely impacted by the way Edwards made his living, prior to becoming a senator. (He is not running for reelection to the Senate – reportedly because his negatives in his home state make success in this endeavor most unlikely.)

But that’s apparently OK with Kerry/Edwards. Though Edward’s choice of livelihood -- and being very good at it -- is a major reason why healthcare costs increasingly outstrip the financial means of the average person -- especially people on fixed incomes, such as retirees – there’s a government solution that will “fix” the problem he helped to create -- by which we are to understand the “socialization” of healthcare costs, by making them the responsibility of all taxpayers. Especially filthy rich taxpayers. (So much for the equal protection of the laws….)

And we all know where John Kerry got most of his money: He married it. (Quite possibly this wasn’t the first time he married for money.) Another irony is that his wife Theresa inherited her fortune from her deceased husband, the late senator from Pennsylvania, John Heinz – a Republican.

Yet the final irony is that Kerry/Edwards is attempting to run a populist campaign, on the theme that they, and not the Republicans, are the ones who really care about the little guy in America. They, not Bush/Cheney, most resonate with the values, experiences, and concerns of the “average” American.

As if that weren’t stretching the truth far enough, they further absurdly allege that Dick Cheney is a dyed-in-the-wool plutocrat who is directly profiteering from the war in Iraq. Indeed, to hear the Dims tell it, the only reason Bush/Cheney brought us to war in Iraq is to enrich their friends and themselves.

I am beginning to think that what the upcoming presidential election will really be all about is the question of whether the American voter can tell the difference between actual reality and the illusions being spun by the Democrat party.

Has the “dumbing down” of society finally culminated in fatal disease? Has a majority of Americans entirely lost their discernment, their instinct for truth?

I just can’t wait to see how this all turns out, November 2.

We have to keep the record straight, my friends. Please share this information with any people you know who are being sucked into the spin and polemics of this "silly season".... In my whole life up to now, I have never seen so many "wooden nickels" being passed as the real thing as I have this presidential election year.

During the buildup and aftermath of the Iraq war, Edwards bought and sold stock in several defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, United Technologies, General Electric, British Petroleum, and General Dynamics.

Before the sale to the government of Hungary, Edwards entertained an offer that could get him in some campaign trouble. The $3.52 million offer was from a public relations specialist hired by Saudi Arabia to influence Congress and the public after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

And if you vote for this ticket, you will be voting for the most richest, elite men to run for office. Haha, and you keep on talking about Bush who is the poorest man in this election of the 4.

I also didn't know you were for the rich. This might wake you up. From http://www.publicintegrity.org/bop2004/candidate.aspx?cid=1&act=pfin Go there and look at their ASSET comparison as well. They have a breakdown in detail for both.

Thanks so much for sharing the fruits of your research, Viet-Boat-Rider.

BTW I am not very fond of lawyers as a general principle. Had to get that off my chest. Maybe that's why I like Bush/Cheney so much. Certainly Bush does not have a law degree. I imagine that neither does Cheney -- but you can correct me on that, if I'm wrong.

Thanks so much for writing.

I just heard that Edwards has a very large investment in OVERSEAS companies' funds. That's quite an investment selection, from a guy who claims too many jobs are going overseas.

One good sign - even the comedians are weighing in on this - Jay Leno this week observed that Kerry-Edwards are worth a combined $1.5 billion - "They're so rich, they're thinking of voting for Bush and Cheney".......
