Google wasn't any help on this.

Where do I find information on how each state requires overseas absentee ballots to be returned to the U.S.? Given that part of the 2000 problem was the lateness of some of the military absentee votes, and how Dems don't want to count those anyway...

Call your county election board.

My son's unit filled out their absentee ballot in March. Should be mailed out after September primaries and November ballots are printed. I have told him to mail his ballot to us and we will hand carry. Not trusting the mails this year!!

If it isn't controlled by the feds then I'd guess you'll have to look at each state's election laws.....

Here's Texas info....

Freepmail freeper Steve Newton; he's got a thread going right now, and his website might lead you to AFIS. The thread is titled "Military Prayer" I believe.

Whatever the states might require of absentee ballots, "Motor Voter" and the United States Postal Service control the matter.

First of all, balloting materials are sent free of postage. Items sent free of postage ARE NOT POSTMARKED!

If you want to know what the postal rules are go to www.usps.gov and look for DMM or DOMESTIC MAIL MANUAL. Do a search for "ballot".

They'd be able to tell me if the overseas ballots MUST be sent back USPS, or by other carriers?

I'll try it come Monday.

General advice is to mail ballots as early possible lest Demorats succeed in their plan to disqualify "late" military votes as they attempted to do in 2000. Sure they want to count every vote.

That's why I want to know which states require those ballots to be mailed ONLY by our lethargic state-run postal system.

Hmmm, I don't know if I'm right about this . . . I seem to remember that there were some shenanigans going on with military ballots at the USPS in 2000, probably at the behest of Bubba himself. Ballots were held up or delayed in some way until the US military took it upon itself to return the ballots to the continental US via military transport . . . 'Course, once here the 'rats at the USPS probably continued their treason . . . Heavens, am I remembering that correctly?

So far, I've struck nothing. The USPS website was of no use whatsoever - thank you, bloated federal bureaucracy.

All I want is a state-by-state account of what each states' laws are regarding how these ballots are shipped. I'll keep trying...

Thanks for the links, BTW. I almost forgot how bloody it got in 2000.

Thanks, but I've been to all these places, and it still doesn't answer how the ballots must be mailed, there and back.

Yes it does. I randomly picked Tennessee and followed the links and got this:

The by-mail ballot must be received by the county election commission office through the postal mail.
And this:
The voted ballot must be received by mail by the close of the polls on election day. Once an absentee ballot has been issued, the voter must vote by mail. If the ballot is rejected, the registered voter will be notified that the ballot was rejected and why the ballot was rejected.
Italics in the original.

I'll leave it up to you to click on the other 49.

Okay, had to dig, but I found a sliver of info. God, do they make it hard to find...

Thanks.

Florida makes it easy. They mail the military ballots to the state prisons for the incarcerated to fill out, and the INS gives them out to all the rounded up illegals before they are released.

</sarc

Has anyone heard what the govt is doing to fix the problem that election officials had with some of the military ballots not having been postmarked? Sometimes that doesn't occur aboard ship.
