Daschle concerned about 'sobering' terror briefing

SPEARFISH -- Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Thursday that he was very concerned about homeland security issues in the face of what he called the most sobering terror report he had heard recently.

The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said Thursday.

The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts underway to ''ramp up security,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.

"It is absolutely essential for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to what we can do to make America safe," Daschle said.

Of particular concern are the nation's borders and ports, Daschle said, and there are security issues unresolved as the homeland security appropriations are "hung up" in the Senate.

Asked if the timing of the terror concerns might be aimed at stealing political thunder from the announcement of John Edwards as the democratic vice presidential candidate, Daschle replied, "The report is so sobering and so serious that I cannot bring myself to believe anyone in this administration would use this for political purposes."

Daschle said the most recent terror briefing was the second this week and contained information that there is a higher threat than there has been at any time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Believe me, they are. I think I mentioned this, before, but a while back I was working a temp job when I was in a doctors office and heard what he was listening to on the radio. I don't know what the radio show was, but the people there were talking about the attacks in Madrid, and were HOPING that something similar would happen here, as well. That after the terrorist attacks in Madrid, that the Spanish "got the message", voting out the conservatives, and voting in the socialists. Likewise, these folks on the radio were hoping for another terrorist attack (Albeit not a large one. Yeah, they're so kind, so that the American people would also "get the message" and vote out Bush, and vote in Kerry. Utter scum.

I just left a dinner where a friend of mine returned last week from Disney World and she saw a middle eastern type man alone standing near the Monorail and studying the track really intently and checking it all out. Her husband and she got on and lost site of the guy. I told her she should have reported him.

Then, if not dirty bombs....What? There were, if you recall, lots of Arabs seen taking lots of pics, all over the U.S. I remember a long time ago at the Hoover Dam, too. And of course, we remember all the Arabs at small plane air training schools.....etc.

I live in the Houston area too, and feel frustrated that I can't do anything. I reported one Arab posing as a South American drug dealer. I don't know if that's a typical cover or not, but it would be so easy for terrorists in Houston to fade into the Hispanic community. We're so busy watching Ali at the dollar store that we miss Jose (aka Mohamed) working at the tacqueria.

No one, no one could support an administration which through CONSCIOUS neglect of our borders permitted terrorists with WMDs to slip in and murder tens of thousands of Americans, and that is the real risk the Bush administration is courting.

"Now you know how serious the threat has to be for Daschle to say this."

Exactly what I thought.

"He wants to be president, and can't find time to at least learn about the most serious threats our nation is facing."

Pretty revealing isn't it?

"Not conventions. They'd hit normal Americans going to work or shopping or whatever. And it'd be very close to election day if they were trying to impact that. Like within a day or two of the election."

Just blow up a lot of everyday folks all over the country, like Madrid. Why make the job harder by going after heavily protected sites...they'll take what we give them, the easy stuff.

Yes,she should have reported him!

Why didn't she? During WW II...everyone would have reporteed such actions and we never had anything like 9/11,during that wat.

The whole first paragraph from the Haaretz article:

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge has canceled a planned visit to Israel next week, Israel Radio reported Friday. Ridge has warned that Al-Qaida may attempt an election time attack in the United States, and officials in Washington said that he prefers not to leave the country at such a sensitive time, according to the radio.

All I get is 'imminent' from this, too.

But I haven't heard a peep about any details about the latest ones -- must be too terrible to even contemplate, much less release any of it to the public, and create mass panic.

Or Patrick Leahy hasn't seen it yet...

And anything that does happen here before the election is absolutely Spain's doing. The whole world is now up for grabs, thanks to the stinking Socialists.

My sister is in Lafayette, LA and is a manager of a storage place and she had an incident where a muslim man tried to rent a big moving truck and was insistent that it he needed it on the 4th, she did not have one available and she said for some reason even if she did she would not have rented it out. She said it just made her uneasy and she wasn't going to take any chances. It isn't like her either to over react.

The Bush administration has taken extraordinary measures to secure our borders. What most racists really object to is his amnesty proposals, which have absolutely nothing to do with border patrols.

The Iranian guys, who were supposed UN security ( hahahahaha) were talking pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and tunnels and such. But those places are heavily watched and will be long after the convention.

I am sure they were just tourists taking pictures. : >) I believe we gave these thugs back to Iran.

Well, I'm confused; who briefed them, the CIA?

Do they believe the CIA, or is it still a bunch of liars and bums?

I hope she reported him. Every dot counts. It took me a long time and many calls to info to find the number to call (just call the FBI), but once I called they were very efficient and courteous.
