Suit Case Terror Dry Run - Identical empty suitcases found about New York
NYPOST ^ | July 9, 2004 | AL GUART

Police fear five empty suitcases left at Penn Station, New York FBI headquarters and other security hot spots in early April were a test by terrorists bent on a Madrid-type attack on commuter rails, The Post has learned.

A confidential Metropolitan Transit Authority police bulletin, titled "Possible Surveillance Testing Tactics," reveals K-9 cops are on edge over a "suspicious packages pattern" they encountered between the last week of March and the first week of April.

"During the past week and a half, the K-9 Unit has responded to approximately five calls for unattended/suspicious packages which they cleared," the confidential bulletin stated.

"However, uniquely, all cases involved empty suitcases.

"These cases appear to be unusual because in most cases of an unattended bag/package there is something in the container, whether personal belongings, clothes or other items."

At Penn Station, a beat-up suitcase was found in the main waiting room at 9:40 a.m. on April 1, sources said.

KERRY: Well, I haven't been briefed yet, Larry. They have offered to brief me. I just haven't had time.

What other place but the Senate can you get away with saying that you don’t have time to do the job you are getting paid for on national television with out fear of loosing you job.

So five times thieves stoled a suitcase, emptied it of its contents, and left the empty suitcase sitting somewhere. Plausible?

Oh, wait, sorry, they were identical suitcases. That makes the thieves theory highly unlikely.

Maybe that's what all the "can you hear me now" tests are about. <>

This is actually much worse, it's not just a neglectful Senator, Kerry is running for president and can't be bothered to keep up with the most devastating and important threat facing the nation.

You suppose these are the some of the 20 suitcase nukes (minus the nukes) that FNC was stupidly reporting were in the country this AM.

I cannot imagine that terrorists would bother to place nukes strategically near a rail station. Just rent an apartment in Manhattan, put the nuke in the linen closet, turn the timer on, and then leave would work pretty well.

Well .. after authorities revealed that the suitcases were empty .. and should have contained certain items .. they pretty much told the terrorists - all you have to do is put some personal stuff in it and we won't be suspicious of it.

Good job!!

All they had to say was they found some UNATTENDED suitcases and for people to be on the lookout for such items.

Only if you think it is plausible that the theives that stole the suitcases happened to steal five people's suitcases that were the same exact make, same exact model and were brand new.

Interviewing somebody doesn't mean you are reporting everything they say as fact.

It means you are interviewing them....

They knew what that moron was going to say before they put him on. The reason they put him on is because it would be sensationalist.

There is no suitcase bombs! One terrorist wanabe left some suitcases around and this has set off a cycle of fear. If you want to blow up something with an atomic bomb--rent a room in a hotel (They seem to have money) have the bellhop bring up the trunk. Set the timer for six hours and go to the airport for a ticket to France or Arabia. You are long gone when the thing explodes.

This incident could also have been a feint to throw us off their trail and waste counter-terror resources on a bogus threat. Meanwhile they may be preparing to strike hundreds of miles away. Our Intelligence people will have to be extremely smart, logical, and thorough to stay one step ahead of AQ.

Not if you're a democrat.

The news media will promote your interview, and your lies, and your responses .... And NEVER point out you're lying.

If you're a democrat, you CAN'T be lying.

One thing for sure, the authorities can not do this job all themselves. People need to be alert. In the case of these suitcases no doubt someone saw them do it but did not think anything of it.

About two months ago my partner and I were driving through Los Angeles and we saw two guys outside a fenced off area by power lines. One was taking pictures the other was taking notes.

I looked about the intersection to see what utility company car might be around and saw only a few cars. None looked official. I noted a description and called the police.

We decided to turn around and head back instead of just driving on. The two men were gone. All the cars that were at the intersection were still there. They were on foot.

We parked and called the police again. While we waited we looked to see what was of such interest. Down from the power lines of course was a power plant. The police showed up. We gave them as good a description as we could.

I have no idea if this was something significant or not. Certainly tourists would not be there taking those pictures. The police said they would check with the power company. I keep thinking we should have stopped and confronted them when we first saw them and been more proactive than just calling the police.

Again, could have been nothing.

Thanks for the ping. The seminar posters and trolls succeeded in killing that thread (first they got it kicked to the backroom, then deleted).

I suspect it will only get worse as the election draws nigh. I sometimes wish *I* could get my hands on some of that "posting-around money", but then I remember that I've gotta live with myself, and I'm stuck with a conscience.

For now, I guess, it's "archive it on sight" when you encounter an important thread. That way you'll be able to review it later on, after the so-and-so's get it deleted off the site.
