US celebrities gathered to raise £4 million for John Kerry and John Edwards or kid as Whoopi Goldberg called the newest addition to the Democratic presidential campaign.
The comedienne greeted Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry, and then peered into the crowd looking for Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth Edwards. And wheres the kid? Wheres young Mr Edwards? And, wheres my girl, wheres my girl?
Teasing Kerry, Goldberg said: Not that your not youthful. Youre very youthful John. But hes youthful. He looks like hes 18!
Later she offered Kerry and Edwards a little advice: John and John. Tell the truth, be honest, dont be afraid. Not everyones going to like it.
The running mates, on their first campaign swing together since Kerry picked Edwards as his vice presidential hopeful on Tuesday, attended the Democratic bash at the famed Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.
Taking the stage at the end of the evening, Edwards said: Whoopi Goldberg said earlier tonight that she was afraid she wasnt going to get a phone call to be here. Then, he added the punch line: I can relate to that.
Kerry added: I was worried I wasnt going to get anybody at home!
Ticket prices for the evening started at £140 for the concert alone to £13,000 for the concert and a reception, including the celebrities. The show was sold out.
The money raised from the concert will be divided between Kerrys campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Last month, a similar concert in Los Angeles raised £3 million, padding Kerrys coffers and helping him break fund-raising records.
Musician Jon Bon Jovi, who held a £600,000 fund raiser for Kerry at his New Jersey home last month and has been an outspoken backer of Kerry, performed acoustic versions of two of his hits before officially opening last nights event.
The beginning of the future starts right here tonight, Bon Jovi said, launching into the Beatles 1969 optimistic melody Here Comes The Sun.
Actress Meryl Streep welcomed the new team with President Kerry. Vice President Edwards ... Oops! I got ahead of myself.
And, singer Wyclef Jean told the crowd jokingly that he wanted to play his new single. Then he launched into: If I was president, Id be elected on Friday, hire Edwards on Saturday, have a big party on Sunday, start work on Monday. Kerry is the president.
And wheres the kid? Wheres young Mr Edwards? And, wheres my girl, wheres my girl?
Should we now be referring to the Boy Edwards as "Little John" perhaps? ;)
President Kerry. Vice President Edwards ... Oops! I got ahead of myself.
Not if she was in France. But she bloody well isn't.

Ping!
And network television and the music industry have also lost me as a customer. Advertisers must surely be aware of the alienation of a sizeable portion of the population due to idiotic performances such as this.
And the worst thing is that Kerry and Edwards sat through all of this and laughed in approval. What high-class candidates!
I also note that Ms. Goldberg and others had nothing positive to say about their candidates...only vulgar and smart-a** attacks on the president.
They have no worries. They know the media will clean it up and never report how perverted the thing was.
The so-called "popular" media is going to lose out to niche entertainment as time goes on - technology means the barriers to entry, i.e., producing good music, films and literature, are dropping, and can be made available easily over the internet. These celebrities are going to only lose in this scenario, as are the big studios and conglomerates that hire them.

These are dangerous times when liberals have created such deep hatred for George Bush .......... very dangerous times! We may not recognize this country very soon!
Ditto!
Excellent. Miss Lange, why not give Kerry all your money for his campaign coffers. You did say you would do anything after all, and you being reduced to waiting tables to keep body and soul together seems like a small sacrifice. Two Johns will take care of you, don't worry, they're for the "other America".
These are dangerous times when liberals have created such deep hatred for George Bush .......... very dangerous times! We may not recognize this country very soon!
There are two Americas, as I said yesterday - the Michael Moore version versus the Ronald Reagan version. I have faith the Great Man will triumph from beyond the grave.

I wish I could feel that way. The way the schools are churning out liberals, the way the text books are being written to promote socialism, communism, and group-think.... there is little chance that the country isn't going down the sewer.
We need calamity if we are to be saved. All the institutions of influence are controlled by liberal/commie/socialist/one worlders. There is no chance without calamity to bring people to their senses. These are awful times. This nation needs to be cleansed, and it is coming in the form of great terrorism. Our reaction to that terrorism will bring us back to our senses.
Thanks for the excellent sentiment. I hate those smug bast*rds. I call them "Castle Communists"! It's easy for them to say the things they say from their "castles". It's easy for them to give away government money (our money). They are clueless, and I really wish that they vaporize.
"What can man do against such reckless hate?"
"Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them"
Let This Be The Hour... The Two Towers - Lord of the Rings
The democrats have spent two years griping that Bush hasn't spent enough on domestic security and first-responders, that the war in Iraq hasn't made us safer, etc. etc. This is so that when an attack occurs they can campaign on the "we told you so" platform. Probably quite a few Americans would listen to them.
My preference is the foiling of a terrorist attack in a very public manner, so that the terrorist threat is understood as a real danger, but that no one is hurt.
I also must say that it would not surprise me that domestic groups like PETA and ELF have thrown in their lot with Al Qaeda, and would launch a terror attack just to get Bush out of the White House. The democrats are stirring up all the weirdos in the country, and we live in a very dangerous time.
BTTT
I'm certain this marks the first time I have ever agreed with Whoppie "Buffalo girl" Goldberg.
This will never happens of course as the "truth" per Kerry, Whoppie, and Edwards will only expose them are leftist scum.
We do agree on that.
I understand your points. I just believe that we are going to get nailed, and I'm not talking about just 3,000 people. What's going to happen when 50,000 or so get killed by a suitcase nuke.
The government officials must address the growing insane, irrational, and undeserved hatred for America around the world. Bush MUST come out and make a speech and tell the world all the great things this country has done for the world.
Remember that guy named Sinclair from Canada who wrote that great piece on the goodness of America? G.W. MUST come out and be forceful about the REAL goodness of America. This hatred must stop growing! If he doesn't speak up and make the point, then I guess he doesn't really believe it!
These are dangerous times alright!
If you look at the so-called celebreties who go to these things and shoot off their mouths, most of them seem to be has-beens or getting there. That line at the Hollywood Squares employment office just keeps getting longer and longer...
These staged love-fests don't work any more.
They are tryinig too hard to be Clinton/Gore '92.
Whenever I see the two of them together, Kerry comes off as a vampire, with Opie Edwards the clueless victim.
