A Seattle Photography Student has twice been detained and harassed by Seattle Police and Homeland Security agents for photographing the Ballard Locks in Seattle as part of an assignment for his photography class.
trolling for spots?
I was stopped and questioned about taking pictures of a local dam 2 years ago, too!
Caught the cop on video questioning me! :)
it's called instinct. In medicine/psychiatry it is called counter transference.
cops have a gut feeling if you are suspicious or lying. If you are anxious, or act strange, you might be arrested or taken for more questioning. Obviously you "felt" to him as an innocent student...
My adopted son "flunked" at an airport by being nervous and not answering their questions in a way that made sense to them...he wasn't a citizen, and was separated from the rest of us, and freaked out (he was 15, but could have passed for 20). WHen I went to get him, they had him in the back. After looking at me and my husband, hearing our story, etc. they left him go. I guess I look innocent when I am innocent (I am actually a lousy liar)
the web page about brown being suspicious is wrong. The locks are just as llkely to be blown up by animal rights terrorists, who are white middle class students.
LOL
Can anyone explain how these police-state abuses will prevent real terrorists from photographing and harming the Ballard Locks?
The only legal basis for detaining a suspect (thus requiring showing ID) is if there is reasonable suspicion that a crime has been (or will be?) committed.
(The humanity! Hundreds of houseboats beached! Salmon inconvenienced!)
Man, I took pictures of the Amtrak Talgo train on that same bridge last July. Hope they dont come after me.
I did learn that Louie's Chinese Cuisine in Ballard is closed the week of July 4th. Bummer.
if you were a terrorist you would sale your boat through the Locks and take pictures galore....
Look who is profiling! Seattle PD
We like Seattle PD.
They have a lot of interesting characters to put up with.
Regarding the article, I think this phrase in the first line says it all:
"A Seattle Photography Student has twice been detained"
I think in this day and age in heightened security; a person should have
caught a clue the first go round. To be detained TWICE is interesting.
well, yes, but pre-WTO, they weren't even allowed to look on the internet as to what the protestors plans were...maybe some sense has entered the dept.
I knew Chief Fitzsimons during my time up there. He was a no nonsense former NYPDer
I hope ALL the LEO's look on the internet every chance they get.
