And another thing--These Democrats flunk democracy
The Spokesman-Review | 7-8-2004 | Editoral Board

Partisan politics stooped to a new low just before Independence Day when nine Democratic members of Congress asked the United Nations to intercede as an observer in the 2004 U.S. presidential election.

Spearheaded by U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, the group signed a letter directed to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan that, according to WorldNetDaily.com, stated in part: "We are deeply concerned that the right of U.S. citizens to vote in free and fair elections is again in jeopardy."

Our freedoms would be in jeopardy if Johnson & Co. gained any semblance of congressional power and allowed a U.S. election to be judged by the likes of Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Sudan and other democratically impaired countries.

Besides Johnson, the signers were: Julia Carson of Indiana; Jerrold Nadler, Edolphus Towns, Joseph Crowley and Carolyn B. Maloney, all of New York; Raul Grijalva of Arizona; Corrine Brown of Florida; Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland; Danny D. Davis of Illinois; and Michael M. Honda of California.

They might as well be when you consider they allowed the letter to be released...

Julia Carson commits the worst voter fraud in the State of Indiana. Her poll workers called my poll workers "the Klan". They also tried to sneak in someone who had already voted once. AND, she buses in people from a local homeless shelter to areas all over town (not in the precinct) who are mentally handicapped or under the influence and tell them how to vote.

While I hope Democrats loose in November, I am more worried about this election than any in memory. The Democrats are pulling out all stops, as they are already prepping the country for another repeat of 2000.

We've got debates going on about the new voting machines...including how they may even be too complicated to use for the impoverished, uneducated and elderly (basically the Dems constituency). Florida is giving in to the felon-vote, because Jeb doesn't want the impression that he is disenfrachising anyone.

Unless Republicans get aggressive, the Dems will literally steal this election. Unfortunately, both the media and dems will make any attempt by the republicans to carry out fair and legal elections, as an attempt to disenfranchise others. It's going to be a bloodfest.

As do most Americans.

We live in a REPUBLIC, not a democracy.

Even most REPUBLICANS get it wrong.

You'd think the poll workers could be alerted to this and stop it from happening...

Or does Indiana not require ID to vote?

Is there any difference between letting Cuba count the vots and the DNC?

JOHNSON CALLS UPON THE UNITED NATIONS TO SEND OBSERVERS
TO MONITOR THIS FALL’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
U.S.-BASED GROUPS CONCERNED ABOUT PROSPECTS OF VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson issued an appeal to the United Nations (UN) to monitor this fall’s Presidential election. This morning Congresswoman Johnson was joined by other Members of Congress as they underscored the need for the UN to come to the United States and safeguard the rights of the American electorate. The request, spearheaded by Congresswoman Johnson, has generated interest at home and abroad and garnered international headlines.

“It is imperative that there be some type of independent monitoring for this fall’s election,” Congresswoman Johnson said during today’s news conference. “The United Nations provides this assistance for other Member countries. Why not the United States? We are not above the law. Nor are we above asking for assistance.”

“We are hoping our action will alleviate the nightmare and the humiliation that many voters suffered at the ballot box and the voting machine during the 2000 election. African-Americans, women and other U.S. citizens have fought too hard and too long for us to allow our votes not to be counted. We have to instill some trust and accountability back in the process, or people will lose faith in the power of their vote. The right to vote, and have votes counted, in free and fair elections is a cornerstone of representative government,” said Congresswoman Johnson.

In their letter to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the Members of Congress wrote: “We are deeply concerned that the right of U.S. citizens to vote in free and fair elections is again in jeopardy.” In addition to Congresswoman Johnson, the lawmakers signing the letter include: Representatives Corrine Brown, Julia Carson, William Lacy Clay, Joseph Crowley, Elijah Cummings, Danny Davis, Raul Grijalva, Michael Honda, Barbara Lee, Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Edolphus Towns.

The effort by these Members of Congress has generated support in the human rights community. “We support the suggestion by Members of Congress that other nations send observers to our Presidential election,” John McAuliff wrote Congresswoman Johnson. McAuliff is the Executive Director of the Fund for Reconciliation and Development. He also wrote, “The disenfranchisement of voters in Florida in 2002, and the further distortion of the democratic will in the aborted recount process, led to tragic consequences for people in many countries, including our own.”

In a related development, human rights organizations are also raising concerns about voter participation in this year’s election. For example, the U.S. based human rights group Global Exchange is also appealing to the international community to come and monitor the U.S. electoral process this fall. Global Exchange—which has carried out election monitoring in 10 countries around the world—says that international monitoring of the U.S. political system is crucial for boosting voter confidence and participation in this year’s elections. The group has plans in place to host at least 28 independent, international monitors in the U.S. as part of its Fair Elections initiative.

Here's my response to EBJ:

It is disheartening to see so many people that are immediately willing to subvert our Country's sovereign power to the whims of the United Nations. This is the same United Nations that keeps such "fine and upstanding" nations like Lybia and Cuba on their own councils for Human Rights (yet on your website, I see that this little stunt of yours has "generated support in the human rights community"). How much do they really know about the UN and "human rights", Mrs. Johnson? This is also the same UN that scammed billions from the Iraqi oil-for-food program. Yet, you would still willingly give them this oversight authority? Is there no end to the attempts by your Party to stick it to Republicans?

Liberal or Conservative, the United States has never needed -- and will never need -- an iota of help with any election. This is our country. Period. There is absolutely NO human-invented entity on this planet that can wield one bit of power over the United States, and it will remain that way. The liberal strategy of incrementally handing power to the United Nations is slowly devolving this country until it will be nothing more than putty in the hands of countries like Cuba, Iran, Korea, France, Germany, etc.

I have previously been witness to your anti-Second Amendment maneuverings and now I must also bear witness as you would willingly give the UN a certain "power of approval" over our own electoral process. I, for one, do not need France, Germany, Cuba, or YOU giving me a sacred "blessing" when I cast my vote.

If we have such a problem with the "disenfranchised voters", then maybe we should look among our own and punish those responsible for denying others their Constitutional rights -- in the same manner as we do other criminal violations. We try to fix the problem ourselves before jumping on the United Nations bandwagon. We do not need an outsider to "validate" one candidate or the other winning any election.

This, to me, appears to be nothing more than a Democrat Party ploy to find a different legal tactic for use when it needs to trump actual voter preference.

Here's a clue: Yesterday at NC's fundraiser, the Bush team was expecting about $1 mil. They actually got $2.5 mil.

I think conservatives have begun to wake up and realize what's at stake.
