I wonder how many Freepers would back a guy I know who beats his kids with the shaft of a golf club and punches them in the ribs if they forget a part for his work at the hardware store.

He's "conservative" though, and a big believer in the 2nd Amendment. And he thinks the gov't should "stay out of his business!"

Also mix some diesel with it so when you hose the parts off it leaves a non rust film and also cleans faster.

Never thought of that.

Thanks!

Everyone thinks that the gov't should stay out of their business. Some people, unfortunately, need the government in their business to keep them from hurting or killing other people.

I still need to design a costume. Problem is, so many superheroes these days have gone post-modern and don't wear traditional costumes anymore. Hell, Marvel re-designed Captain America's costume a couple of years back

With your attitude you need to be insulted!

Why use logic, when insults can suffice?

Diesel ha a small molecular strucure and is very penetrating.

A gas tank or fittings that won't leak will leak diesel.

Can't do it any more since the government decided it's dangerous to your health but a mixture of creasote and diesel is the best penetrating oil that money can buy.

I've had scaffold clamps that were in a 5 gallon buket that got filled with rain water and rusted up so bad that you would break the bolts off trying to loosen them, soaked for a few days in diesel and creasote and be able to run the nuts off by hand.

Anything that works, the nanny state bans as dangerous!

I have (back patting inserted here) read this whole thread and I don't see where a strawman arguement has been introduced by MM.

Indeed, he has been quite logical, although I wish he'd find another analogy rather than prostitution. But, that's just me.

And to think, I always thought those stories about drug-addicted "parents" pimping their kids to their drug dealers were disgusting. All this time, it was their right to do so. Who knew?

Well, I was surprised that I was able to find a FReeper who is okay with 14 year-olds acting in pornography.

I think my point applies to less disturbing jobs, like sending kids into mines to reach ore in places where adults can't go (a common practice before child labor laws). Or using them to unclog textile machines since their hands could reach in (though, sometimes, the machines would take their hands off).

I was trying to use the kiddie porn and prostitution analogy to point out the craziness of the idea that kids should be allowed to work in any profession, so long as their parents approve. Sometimes, though, FReepers can really be off the deep end.

I know what you were trying to say. And there are a lot of off the wall FReepers, indeed.

Certainly no one has ever been injured or killed trying to save a person who was "only endangering himself."

From the article: ...he was charged with third-degree assault after spanking an 18-month-old boy with a stick, Kittitas County Superior Court records show.

An eighteen month old baby should not be hit with a stick. Period.

The same thing I think of the decent, principled men and women who were my school teachers when I was growing up.

Bingo !

It was done with the best of intentions. I wasn't permanently harmed, and I can't remember a situation where I was paddled and didn't deserve it.

I paddled my own child at about this age, using a hand. It only was needed once in her life.
