"Free Republic" Free Fantasy Football at Yahoo!

The only restriction is that I'd like the team names to be a place name (real or fictional) and a noun. Also, I can switch to live draft if there is an interest. BUT, if you still want to participate and can't make a live draft, the live draft for you would be done via autopick (with your pre-draft list or Yahoo!'s)-- which is the default anyway. If you need help in how to sign up for this, just let me know. And, it's free to play.

(figures Bill Bidwell would have his team practicing on artificial turf)

I absolutely despise artificial turf. Injuries waiting to happen. We played one game on it in high school and our top receiver was out for the season with a broken leg.

Once you get past Gonzalez, I think the TE position is pretty thin. If the top 4 were there, I would have drafted one, but anything past that point, I think is a dime a dozen. I figured I rather take a chance with a possible rookie stud, while I wait to see what the reports are shortly before the season starts. Don't worry I'll pick up a TE off waivers right before the season starts to get my two to three points per game. Obviously, TE is NOT my big priority.

It's a 10 teamer, but I was still happy to grab him.

Green has to blow up to steal Suggs' job.

Bell's trouble is that he's a rookie who on top of that is missing valuable camp time with his broken finger. It may be a while before he can get into a groove.

Damn. I have him in League 2, but as a back up. I'm down to Fargas now there.

Maybe, but if I can't get to 10, I might just delete it. I'm hoping new people will see this thread and sign up for League V.

I drafted Portis during his rookie year, I was patient and kept him my roster. He then exploded for me during the 2nd half of the season.

Crumpler was still availible so at least I had a good backup plan(Same with Peter Warrick in your case). I just hope Vick will get him the ball near the endzone.

Harrington was a steal at 12 for you since he finally has some help(although the Lions running game will determine the season). I would have picked him at 10 or 11, but I had Leftwich already as my 9 pick. If he slipped to 14, I'd probably pick him anyway in case he has a breakout year.

I was suprised Fitzgerald was still there at 7 and Reggie Williams even more so at 11(I think that will be a steal). I actually considered picking Williams at 7 if Fitzgerald wasn't on the board.

PurpleBash's Team

1) RB LaDainian Tomlinson

2) WR Torry Holt

3) RB Michael Bennett (Crowned the starter by Tice. Healthy, and I expect 1300+ yds, 8 to 10 tds this year)

4) QB B. Favre ( I expect Farve to be Favre)

5) WR Laveranues Coles (Solid #2 receiver 1204 yds for 2003)

6)RB Curtis Martin (put up respectable number in the 2nd half of season)

7) RB Thomas Jones (Anointed the starter by the Bears. Anthony Thomas will be sidelined up to three weeks with bruised ribs, and has been relegated to 2nd string. )

8) DEF Carolina ( Solid "D"; excellent numbers: 40 sacks, 16 ints, 10 fumble rec 3 TDs, 1 Safety, 5 blocked kicks)

9) TE Freddie Jones (55 receptions, 3 TDs better than most TEs)

10) K Martin Gramatica

11) WR Keenan McCardell (A good 3rd WR, although is a hold out at the moment)

12)WR Muhsin Muhammad

13)QB Drew Bledsoe

14) RB Tatum Bell (Fast, another Portis?)

15) RB Garrison Hearst (Either Hearst or Bell should emerge as Denver's starter)

Muhammad fell to 12th?! That's shocking. He went 8th in a RB heavy draft. In the league I'm in, Bennett was a 2nd Rounder, Martin a 3rd, and Jones 4th. I got Bell in the 8th, and someone got Hearst in the 9th.

1 - QB Dante Culpepper - I picked 13th in a 14th team league, and I was behind 11 runningbacks and WR Rod Smith. I went for the star QB instead.

2 - WR Randy Moss - 16th pick and he was availible. If he decides to play is the only question.

3 - RB Charlie Garner - 40th overall - I needed a running back, and there was a good one still availible. Only question mark is his age, but he can catch passes as well as run, and Gruden will get him the ball.

4 - WR - Steve Smith - A great No 2 receiver IMO - can score on returns or receiving.

5 - RB - Lee Suggs - Not many starting or possible runningbacks were left. I had to get who I thought was the best bet.

6 - TE - Alge Crumpler - I wanted to get Boo Williams here(who I think would be a poor man's Tony Gonzales), but was beaten to it. I was considering the Baltimore Defense here, but went with a proven TE.

7 - WR - Larry Fitzgerald - If he can duplicate Bouldin, I'll be real happy.

8 - RB - Tatum Bell - I planned on getting him if at all possible during the draft. With RB's at a premium, and Denver's system, it's worth the gamble, especially if he earns the starting job.

9 - QB - Byron Leftwich - I think he'll be a solid #2 QB

10 - K - Jason Hanson - A solid kicker for years.

11 - WR - Reggie Williams - He's supposed to be starting this year. I thought about taking him at 7 if Fitzgerald and Mushin Muhammad were not availible. I think he's a steal at 11.

12 - Minnesota Defense - 28 picks last season

13 - RB - Lamont Jordan - I don't expect much in yards, but he may get a few goalline touches for TD's.

14 - TE - Itula Milli - 46 catches and 4 TD's last year

15 - Lions Defense - This is a homer pick to some degree, but the Lions added Brock Marion and Fernando Bryant to the DB core along with Dre Bly and returned Brian Williams. Chris Cash could be a good corner when he's not hurt and would be great for nickel.

Suggs came up huge today in a scrimmage against the Bills. Green is still going to get major carries, and whoever carries the load early in the year will likely have it reduced somewhat later.

Jerramy Stevens could very well steal his job.

Yeah, OK, I did it last year and it was pretty fun (even though I don't know that much about football).

A lot of it is guesswork anyway. As ESPN said, who knew who Jake Delhomme was last year at this time, who knew what would become of clipboard-carrying Tom Brady a few years back, who saw Third Round project Terrell Owens as a superstar, who knew this guy not good enough to be drafted named Priest Holmes would become a stud, who knew superstar fantasy draftpick Michael Vick would not be a factor last year because of a freak accident?

It's mostly just watching games and hoping for greatness. The great Peyton Manning last year was held to no TD's and a 55.5 rating against the Browns-- not exactly the Steel Curtain. Crazy things happen. It's fun to cheer your players on (even as you wish their team to lose because you're a fan of the opposing team). It will make you a better NFL fan.

I am a 20 year veteran of fantasy baseball (I'm currently in first in the Freeper Fantasy baseball league), so I know about playing the game -- it's just that I haven't been a big follower of football (baseball was my game). So that's a big learning experience. Last year we only played TD's and FG's, which was a bit weird. This stat breakdown looks more interesting. Hope we get a full league -- I have, what, 18 hours to figure out who to draft!?

Well, I'm about 30 miles south of where the Seahawks play...so I guess I'm a Seahawk's fan.
