Prayer request for my Dad
Self | Thursday, July 8, 2004 | Flyer

Posted on 07/08/2004 4:39:16 AM PDT by Flyer

My Dad needs your prayers - and a card, if you could.

After successfully battling colon cancer 4 1/2 years ago - and 3 follow up surgeries to correct problems with his colostomy - he was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, with tumors on his spine and lung.

He started radiation treatments on one tumor but became too weak to get out of the house. We will be bringing in hospice care in a few days.

Your prayers for comfort are appreciated.

Why a card? My Dad is a collector of things. My local FReeper friends that have seen his house can attest to that. Pictures and cards are very meaningful to him. Computers and the Internet are not his cup glass of iced tea. If I printed this thread and presented it to him it wouldn't mean nearly as much as a card.

My Dad (Wilburn) is 80 years old and a widower. He served in the Pacific in WWII in the Navy Signal Corps.

Freepmail me for his address if you can send a card. I will reply as soon as I can.

Great cards Flyer.

Continued prayers for your Dad and your whole family. Don't forget that humor is a wonderful medicine. Get lots of funny movies and just enjoy yourselves.

YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE RARE PEOPLE WHO DESERVE MORE THAN THEY HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF LIFE. I will always have a place for you.

Thanks so much for the ping and picture Flyer. I told him he really looked good in that grass skirt when I sent my card! I'll keep him, and you, in my prayers.

What a great picture and yes, I see my card. Who sent that standout George Bush card?

Thanks for the reminder to keep your dad in prayer, I think I've been slacking the last few days.

Great to hear your Dad is more upbeat.

I see room for more cards, I'd better send another.

As always, prayers.

Wow, Flyer, I just found this thread.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's illness . . . when you get a chance, FReepmail me the address and I'll send him a card.

My dad was in the European Theater (N Africa & Italy) but my father in law was in the Pacific, Signal Corps and later Army Air Corps.

(Never saw a pic of F-I-L in a grass skirt . . . that would have been a sight, he was a long lanky upcountry Georgia boy . . . but he does have some pix of the local ladies in same . . . )

P.S. your dad looks as cute in a grass skirt as any red-blooded American male has a right to!

"If I find time I will scan some more of Dad's Pacific pictures and post them here"

Would love to see your Dad's Pacific pictures, if you find time. I know how busy you must be.

Hello to your Dad :-)

My prayers are with you. I lost my Dad in March. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran, Pacific theater USS Mississippi. Hospice was very kind to him. They notified the family in time so we could all be with him at the end and we were also assured that he gave his heart to the Lord before he left us. The end was very peaceful.

Suggestion: If you have not done it yet, register his name with the National WWII memorial. http://www.wwiimemorial.com/
