PRESIDENTIAL CHOICE

Now Kerry/Edwards 49% Bush/Cheney 44%

June Kerry/Edwards 45% Bush/Cheney 44%

REFLECTION ON THE CANDIDATES

At the moment, Edwards enjoys far more favorable assessments than does his opponent, Vice President Dick Cheney. But there are still many voters who have no image of the Senator.

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IMAGES

Cheney Favorable 27% Not favorable 47% No opinion 26%

Edwards Favorable 38% Not favorable 9% No opinion 53%

This poll was conducted among a nationwide random sample of 462 registered voters interviewed July 6, 2004. These respondents had originally been interviewed by CBS News and "The New York Times" June 23-27, 2004. The error due to sampling could be plus or minus five percentage points for results based on the entire sample. The sampling error on individual change is much smaller.

CBS News' polling hasn't exactly been stellar. It tends to favor the Dems (I know - big shock). Nothing to see here ... move along.

So is the poll. +/- 5% MOE basically means the results have no statistical value. Of course, they have a lot of value to CBS and NYT's and nervous fools who consider either outlet to be legitimate news sources.

What kind of demographics are we talking about where Cheney, who is well respected by Republicans, only gets a 23% favorable rating?

If that's a bounce, it's a dead cat bounce. Usually they get 15%.

The poll on balance could be a lot worse. I don't think Kerry/Eddie will ever break 50% in the polls.

I don't think W/Cheney will either, though.

Things will settle in with W/Cheney just ahead in the national polls, but with a solid lead in the EV.

The Cheney negatives are a testament to how out-of-touch the admin can be at times. They never took a posture to defend the VP so the incessant bashing took hold and became conventional wisdom. It won't make much of a difference in the election, I think, but when we win in 04 we also win the Booby Prize, as my dad says - no logical successor for President in 2008. Cheney won't do it. No more Bushes. Condiholics have to accept the fact that she hasn't ever won an elected office, and may make a nice VP to groom her for better things, but is not presidential timber in 2008.

Who's left? Figure a charismatic Republican Governor from a large state is the ideal choice. Rudy irks some more conservative folks, though he is ok by me. He stands the best chance to topple Hildy in my book.

And anyone thinking Edwards will go on to be the nominee in 2008 hasn't been paying attention. He is an empty suit with a good rap, but he will go to the VP Elephants Burial Ground after election 2004.

Neither does years and years and YEARS of media demonetization of Cheney.

And he doesn't have a "potty mouth",when compared to others in politics, who CONSTANTLY say far worse, but are protected by the lamestream media.

that Cheney unfavorable number is seriously bad.

And I will guarantee you that not one in twenty of these 'informed citizens' can even pick his picture out of a lineup. If true, most could only parrot some 'Cheney/Halliburton' blather-- once you see Cheney speak, see him in interviews, he rules, especially when the question is national security.

This is a lousy poll, using a very small sampling, by two of the most biased institutions in the universe. If this is the best margin even CBS can delivered with their yellow polling, in this period of fabled 'bounce' for the dems, I'd say it looks pretty grim around La Maison de Munster this winter...

Not much of a bounce. Of course, the MSM will not report it that way. They'll argue that it means W is toast.

WTF? Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Slimes/CBS News propganda piece of a poll in June have Kerry up by like 8 points over Bush, if I remember correctly?

So they compare the Kerry/Edwards numbers where there were more undecideds and call it news? They have to be joking.

Wolfowitz also scored low after his embarrassing Senate hearing where he didn't even know the number of our casualties in Iraq. For many that said everything.

On another thread here there was talk of Bush possibly going with Giuliani.

As for Kerry/Edwards -- all I can say is: What were the Democrats thinking of? A traitor and an ambulance chaser? Didn't Edwards sue Ford and collecte $25 million when his son died in a car accident? If true, it's the little people who end up paying for it.

The media has brainwashed more than a few people that Cheney is the real power in the White House. As a result they will attempt to portray the 2004 election as a Cheney vs. Edwards race. I say let them. Lightweights are useless in the War on Terrorism.

Cheney will clean Edward's clock at the debates. That's what will do more than ALL of the media propaganda can/could.:-)

Kerry and Edwards would be utterly useless in the WoT! GOD save us all, from us ever seeing that.

sadly, perception is more important then reality to alot of voters. that's what Bush is up against - and he's got, in my opinion, an inept political team. to allow these attacks on Cheney to go on endlessly, with no defense, no rebuttal. and now they think they can just start after labor day and run a 10 week campaign and turn it all around. its going to be close.
