July 6, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVE
John Kerry has chosen Rep. Richard Gephardt, the veteran congressman from Missouri, to be his running mate, The Post has learned.
Gephardt, 63, a 28-year veteran of the House of Representatives, could be named by the presumptive Democratic nominee as the party's vice-presidential candidate as soon as today.
The Massachusetts senator was set to announce the winner of the veep-stakes at a rally this morning in Pittsburgh, according to several reports last night.
With the July 26 Democratic convention in Boston looming, Kerry is looking for some advantage in the polls, and is hoping his choice of running mate will be the answer.

7:16am-- Kerry just called me and told me that it wasn't going to be RobFromGa as his running mate this year. Oh well, maybe next time.
I was in the other room but heard an analyst on FoxNews say 'If Kerry picks Gephardt, Missouri is a quasi-Southern state.'
'Nuancing' for the Southern vote, still.
A lot of DUmmie heads will explode if Kerry picks Gephardt. He is NOT popular there.
Bingo
Is DU down? I can't access the site. They must be really excited over the Gephardt pick.</s>
sheesh--- I'm in Indy. I can already feel the dullness and idiocy approaching. And to think that our economy was just starting to pick up.
As they did yesterday morning, C-SPAN is using the first half hour of Washington Journal to get Veep suggestions. Almost no one has even mentioned Gephardt - oops, one just did. A Republican caller suggested Michael Moore.
I don't believe this for a second. It will be neither Gephardt, Vilsack, or Edwards. There looking for "buzz" and these same old, same old names ain't gonna do it.
I still haven't recieved the call...
C-SPAN host just said NBC is reporting that it is Edwards.
Hell, her only two friends say she's unlikeable, as well.
fn is probably trying to dial Hillary.
FoxNews Alert says word they are getting is Edwards got the nod.
Yep -- NBC broke in with "special report"...it's Edwards.
NBC said Edwards...
Hmmmmmmmm!
NBC just did a BREAKING that Kerry chooses Edwards
