Gephardt is a wise choice on Kerry's part, and Gephardt is clearly the most qualified Dem to be president. Indeed, he is more qualified than Kerry. It is a signal, that Kerry is not going to fundamentally disagree with the Bush policy on Iraq, even though he claims with his insipid generalities that he is.

Don't believe it yet. I think Gephardt is a bad choice. Yes, he is capable of the nastiness that is sometimes required of a VP candidate, but he has a record of losing and is another inside Washington guy.
None of the three choices indicates a break with Bush on Iraq, actually.

Right, Gebhardt is the right choice for Kerry. I was as I predicted some months ago on these threads because it fits his two coasts and Lakes strategy. Gebhardt will give him more help than any other dem in Ohio, likely the most important state in this election. He will not inspire but he will not make any mistakes either. He will be able to make a fair showing against Cheney in the debate without any gaffs.
The fact that Gebhardt is not charismatic, and probably cannot actually deliver any state including Ohio, means that Kerry is feeling pretty confident about now, and with good cause considering Bush's unfavorables, or he would have chosen The Breck Girl to try to change the odds- a ploy that seldom works.
A good solid defensive play which does not change the race much but, of course, Kerry will now get a bounce as the media deifies Gebhardt.

Perhaps but he picked the Ambulance chaser who went native in DC and was to the left of Kerry on Iraq.:-}
