Earlier, unidentified union sources said that Gephardt was a done deal. Could it be true? Or is Kerry engaged in misdirection?
To: Bonaventure
Of course, Senator Kerry could have changed whatever decision he might have made since last Thursday.... Kerry could have changed whatever decision he might have made five seconds ago.

This subterfuge is silly. It will be Edwards.

For the record, I, too, think it'll be Edwards.

Or is Kerry engaged in misdirection? I think so. Maybe as a trial balloon. I still think its going to be Hitlery Clinton.

Edwards has too much personality, but he has too little experience (1 Senate term) and appeared to be non-re-electable to the Senate from his own state. That isn't too good of a resume.
Gephardt brings most of the labor union vote and more midwestern-ism to counter Kerry's northeast elite-ism.
I don't see Gephardt helping Kerry with the southern vote.
I don't see Hillary. That indicates that (1) either Hillary has no plan to run until possibly 2012 (doubtful; too much lipo and facelifting); or (2) the Clintons consider the Kerry campaign a dead horse, giving Hillary a clear shot for 2008.

Oh, please, please, please, please, please let it be Gephardt. Lurch and Howdy Doody - what fun we would have.
To: Bonaventure
Picking Gephardt would at least keep him breathing until 2008.

ABC News: Kerry May Have Already Picked Gephardt So he picked him before he picked him. But if he ends up going with Edwards, then he will have picked him before he didn't pick him.

Kerry is arrogant and doesn't believe in misdirection. OTOH, Kerry is indecisive and may still be flip-flopping between Head Gephardt and Edwards.
Gephardt would certainly maintain the dem VP gravitas and stature standards set by PanderAl Gore.

Gephardt would be a strong pick for Kerry. I have long thought Edwards would be the man, and he still may be, but I think now Gephardt would be the better choice. No Southern strategy will work for Kerry so Edwards is wasted on that score, it seems. Gephardt helps in the Midwest and shores up the union vote, if it needs shoring up. He's also a clean guy with no scandals or skeletons in his closet, I'll bet. Also, Gephardt is very dull so he wouldn't easily overshadow the main candidate.
Smart, if it's true.
To: All
If he pics Gephardt I am convinced he is a plant and I will start believing in conspiracy theories.... did you all know Kennedy is still alive?

the Clintons consider the Kerry campaign a dead horse.
If it's not already dead they'll administer the final bullets.

Any lamesteam masturbation over Gephardt, Edwards, or the like is just setup and initialization for the so-called VP "surprise", alluded to last week. Makes it that much more
of a "surprise". Why would there even be mention of a "surprise", unless that option was the most likely and serious one. If it were not so, and one of the named candidates were chosen, it would make the mention of a surprise, in hindsight, appear silly.

Gephardt is the safer choice. And whatever his shortcomings, at least he's an adult, unlike the Clinton-Gore manchild duo.
Edwards would help close the "charisma gap", though.
