Man, I guess I will have to go on "Jaywalking" -dude, I had no idea that the Roman Empire had ever spread all the way to Cali-phony-ia, but then I'm just a little red-neck from Floriduh.

Just kidding! Actually, the pictures are awesome and it sounds like a really cool event.

And, from www.geocities.com/fortmacarthur/schedule.html:
SCHEDULE Of ACTIVITIES

(Program is subject to changes without notice due to conditions beyond the control of the
Fort MacArthur Museum, the event chairperson, the staff and volunteers of the museum and event.)
Although this page is still under construction and subject to changes, check the updated schedule of
activities page given to all visitors as you make your donation on the day of the event.  Thank you.
SATURDAY and SUNDAY

0900  The gate will open for the public, starting the 2004 'OLD FORT MacARTHUR DAYS' reenactment show and living history event.

0915  The American Flag will be raised before the opening ceremonies.

0920  The Opening Ceremonies will take place with an introduction by the event chairperson, Lou Lopez

0930  The daily Parade of Troops will take place on the Main Battle Field area.
Schedule to be presented on the Main Battle Field area (time to be arranged):

Highlighting Saturday's event and taking center stage on the battle field in front of Battery Osgood, the British Gordon Highlanders of the Sudan campaign will make a return appearance at the Old Fort MacArthur Days event.  This group is well known around the world and have traveled to England to perform.  You do not want to miss this great event.  Remember, the Highlanders will perform on Saturday only, right after the Parade of Troops.
Following the Highlanders, the British Forces of the Colonial War will make a presentation of battle techniques on the battle field.  These British Forces are becoming a favorite at the event because everybody loves the way they treat us Colonials.

The California Mexican War Association will present a landing of the US Marines and naval forces.  During the war, American forces landed in San Pedro on its way to capture the village of Los Angeles.  A battle took place at Dominquez Ranch, presently located on Alameda Avenue - south of the 91 Freeway, between the American forces and the Californios protecting Los Angeles.  Come and see the outcome of this battle.

.

Taking center stage on Sunday morning will be the Spanish-American War 1898.  It will be presented by the members of Western Educators, Shooters & Troopers, with the assistance of the National Indian War Association and the Third Texas Cavalry.  Learn about the war that made America a world power.  Come feel how it was at the training camp of the First United States Volunteer Cavalry Regiment in San Antonio, Texas.  Then watch as the Rough Riders take the hill from the Spanish/Cubano forces.  Once again, this battle will be presented on Sunday morning only.

The pre-Colonial period groups will be taking over the main battle field starting around High Noon.  The various groups will be presenting demostrations, drilling, lectures, and 'historical skits' through and up to the 2 PM hour.  The following groups are schedule to make presentations: The Medieval era featuring the Red Company - 1471, the Roman era featuring Legio IX, the Renaisance era featuring the Saint Michael's Guild and other organizations, the Mountain folks, a military cavalry group.

The Vietnam Historical Society and the paratroopers of World War II will take center stage on the main battle field around 2 PM.  There will be weapon demonstrations, firing and drilling technique, and battle reenactment on both Saturday and Sunday.  So get ready to see the Marines take the hill from the enemy.

The various Civil War groups will present the last battle of each day on the main battle.  This battle will take place at 3 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.  There will be drilling, artillery demostrations, and battle reenactments.  So come over and cheer for the Blue and the Gray.  President Lincoln will be speaking to the crowd on Saturday following the battle.  He will also make his speech in the early morning hours, so check for time and location.  General George Pickett and his lovely wife will make a presentation covering the letters written between the two during the Civil War.  This will take place around 1 PM.

.

As always, the Fort MacArthur Garrison will conduct tours of the tunnels and rooms of the Fort MacArthur Museum on both Saturday and Sunday.  Hours will be posted at the museum tunnel entrance.  General Douglas MacArthur will also be on hand to discuss the life of the MacArthur family.  Local law enforcement agencies will be on hand to enlighten the public as to their services.  Watch out for interesting demo items.  Musical entertainment will be presented in front of the museum's gift shop around 4 PM on Saturday.

As with all events, some of the presentations/historical skits/demonstration/etc. are subject to change without notice due to conditions beyond the control of the Fort MacArthur Museum, its Association and/or members, the volunteers, the participating groups and/or organizations.

Closing Time

SATURDAY
The Flag will be lowered at 1645 hours (4:45 PM)
- The Event Will Close At 1700 Hours (
5:00 PM) -

SUNDAY
The Flag will be lowered at 1545 hours (3:45 PM)

I grew up in Warrenton, OR which is at the mouth of the Columbia river on the Oregon side. Fort Stevens and the numerous coastal defense batteries were actually shelled by a Japanese submarine that surfaced during WWII. The old tradition at my school was to have egg fights on halloween at Battery Russell. There are earthworks that date all the way back to the Civil War at Ft. Stevens and there's an excellent museum there. The panorama view from Battery Russel doesn't show the ocean because of the trees planted by the CCC during the depression. When I was young the trees were short enough that you could still see the ocean from the command tower.
