Oil Pipeline in Southern Iraq attacked AGAIN! (posted 7/3/04)
Bloomberg

July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Saboteurs have attacked an oil pipeline in southern Iraq, Sky News said, citing a report by the Reuters news agency.

The attacks have left raging fires, Reuters reported, citing unidentified local officials, according to Sky News.

Iraq, the Middle East's fifth-largest oil producer in May, has lost about $1 billion in oil income during the last year as a result of sabotage to its oil infrastructure, the country's Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said.

There is also a huge brush fire burning around the Alaska pipeline but no damage to system so far.

Of course not. They're on the terrorists' side.

Is anybody reporting the four car bombs STOPPED by the new Iraqi Army and the 51 suspected terrorists with assorted rockets, mortars and other airborne pests being arrested in southern Baghdad this morning? I see very little stateside press, but since this is a very positive story, I imagine it's getting very little coverage there.

Those Iraqis are kicking butt and taking names and we're all delighted to see it.

The Iraqi terrorists are like Democrats, they will destroy anything to gain/maintain power. There is no concern in the hearts of these people for country or fellow man. They are inherently destructive to self and community. Until they are eradicated, they will continue to make mischief.

I was amazed when I saw who actually ran an article on this:

U.S. troops uncover car bomb factory, detain 51 (via the SF Chronicle)

Somebody better go and tell the gas station operators they need to raise their prices again. And darn, wouldn't you know it, right during the 4th of July weekend.

It's Bush's fault.

If you listen to the rats every car should get 60 mpg and we should cut our use of oil.Problem is they are a little light on how to do all that. They think it will just "happen". A small fact often ignored by other rat sympathizers.

Oh, but the technology already exists don'tcha know? It's just that bush/cheney/haliburton, are holding the secret to the 60mpg carburetor so that...what? We don't use carburetors anymore, well there you have it, must be a world-wide conspiracy.

The report on the car bomb factory and 51 arrests can be found on:

I think we will see more of this. The 'insurgents' are their enemies now. The Press in the US may not call them terrorists...but I'm sure the Iraqi's will.

The Iraqi ambassador to the U.S. was on CSPAN a few nights ago...she said the terrorists are NOT "the resistance"....they are criminals.

I would like to hear of bodies in the desert everytime these guys get to a pipeline. How hard can it be to catch them before the bombs go off? These pipelines should be off limits to travelers. I look forward to the Iraqis getting their act together.

you can all chortle if you want - but many technologies exist for cars to get better MPG. and many more would have been developed had we had very gradual increases in fuel economy standards every year (like we do with emissions), forcing auto makers to invest in these technologies, rather then putting 20 cupholders and DVD players in all cars. but neither political party wanted to deal with the problem.

I disagree completely with your basic premise. Many technologies do not exist for cars to get better MPG. Saving fuel is only a small part of the problem and will come as technology advances sufficiently to allow for inclusion of such new discoveries that remain in balance with basic laws of physics and in a cost effective way, rather than the other method you suggest, that of forcing auto makers to invest in that which is not ready for market.

When there are millions of vehicles on the road, many of them large commercial vehicles, and in many nations, one new car that gets an increase of say 10% in its miles per gallon, does not begin to address the problem of the overall fuel used nationally/worldwide, or the ability to decrease that usage. Dominant statistics indicate that the need/demand by nations world wide is increasing far faster than any conservation methods will reduce the need for barrels of crude.

So for the moment it might be time to stop allowing radical environmentalist to dictate drilling policies, and refinary construction to those who know better that the need for crude oil must be met in the short term, meanwhile working to discover the next generation of personal locomotion that will meet the transportation needs of the world economy.

Fox News said earlier today that this was NOT sabotage. They implied it was just a bad weld or something "natural".
