I don't run MS products for now, but maybe this will help y'all out. It's a long piece with lots of info.

You're very welcome. It's a pleasure to prevent Republicans from losing money by posting material about security. I realize that the Wash. Post is often a lefty publication, but when something's useful,... Info that is more technical can often be obtained by running searches using keywords in columns like the one behind the link.

When news of this latest threat hit last week I switched browsers and went with Mozilla Firefox. I was, and have been, very pleased so far. Firefox is much faster loading pages and I suspect much, much safer...

I have also switched to Firefox after struggling for days to remove a deeply embedded batch of keystroke logging programs from one of the family's PCs.
The malware was not detected nor removable by several major anti-virus and firewall programs. They had begun to slow the system down significantly and were causing all sorts of strange and unpleasant behavior. The best tool I found for detecting and removing this evil crud was Security Task Manager (www.neuber.com/taskmanager).
I am very happy with Firefox. It is clearly superior to Internet Explorer. The only complaint I have is that I don't care for their logo. I will use Firefox exclusively from now on.
A pox on MS's house for the all the pox they have bought into my house.

I'm getting fed up with MS, too. However, I'm not going Mac. So, I guess, when I get my new computer, I'll get make it duel boot-- XP and Lindows. (maybe)

It would be nice if FR could add a COMPUTER topics to the forum for all computer related topics; tech help. updates, news, simulations and gaming, virus alerts etc. etc...being able to post questions or alerts etc. without getting bumped off to chat or deleted as vanities.

I am struggling between Firefox and Opera. Firefox sometimes opens a tab, and sometimes opens a whole new window. I prefer the tabs. Opera always opens the tab, and I like not having to have another program running to get my email.

Go into options and check your settings. You can fix that problem easily. Yu might also want to investigate the extensions available. There's one for tabbed browsing that gives you additional options.

Based on posts in this thread I decided to give Mozilla another try. I have never stuck with it in the past because, quite frankly, it was MUCH slower than IE. I always did like the tabbed interface however, so I would always check out each new revision. Firefox, so far, seems to be just as fast as IE and wonderfully designed. I'm liking this a lot so far. One question:
The url window on the tool bar is much too large, all at the expense of the small google search window right next to it. How do I "unlock" the toolbar so I can resize the url box smaller and make the search box larger?

I *think* like this:
View > Toolbars > Customize
Click and drag Flexible Space or Space to the toolbar. I'm not sure if this will or can make the search box longer but it does seem to move things around a little bit. Anyone else have any ideas?
To: octobersky
This just seems to let me reposition the boxes but not resize them.

Yeah, me too. Maybe there is a little program out there somewhere that would make the toolbar even more customizable.

and Lindows
Did that a few months ago - and regret it. Lindows sucks IMHO.
Perhaps some one else will suggest some other flavor of Linux for you. I'm sticking with Win2K and OS X...
