I say leave this whole divorce thing alone. It's not going to win any new votes. It's old and apparently he and his first wife are good friends now. It serves no purpose. I felt that way about the Ryan case and I think it's important to tbe consistant.

Compare that with the Jack Ryan Illinois Senate case where both parents were arguing to keep the records sealed so that their 9 year old son could be spared the embarassment of unsubstantiated allegiations.

Seems the allegations were substantiated.

The Catholic Church doesn't teach that children from annulled marriages are illegitimate.

Not to defend John Kerry but your headline is not true. Annullment does not in any way affect the legitimacy of the children born to an annulled marriage.

...Ms. Thorne had been severely depressed and near suicide when Kerry walked out on her...

Wouldn't you be if you were married to that guy?

I'll bet she started getting better immediately.

If it was good enough for Newt Gingrich, it's good enough for John Kerry.

An annulment doesn't make the children "illegitimate."

It amounts to an acknowledgement by the Church the marriage should never have taken place, but the Church still recognizes the children as legitimate just as children of couples in non Catholic unions are considered "legitimate" even though those other religions (all protestant religions) are not considered valid.

"...cast his daughters into the bizarre state of illigimacy."

Illegibility?

Illiteracy?

I think that it is much more interesting that his daughter appeared at Cannes Film Festival in a dress that might as well have not been there, and it left nothing to the imagination. Clearly -- no taste!

Can you imagine that at the Inaugural Ball?

Since when is a marriage with children illegitimate?

The church said, "What Marriage"?

I don't get this.

JMO This is a non story.

Most people don't care that someone has had a divorce and remarried. The fact that he did apply and recieve an annullment before remarriage shows that he does follow the Churches teachings.

This story needs to die and move onto real issues.

I think Kerry's divorce is one of the factors that women will consider when they look at the total person. IMO, Kerry broke faith with his first family when he moved on. I don't care what the code of conduct is today. Kerry deserted his first family and moved on to "bigger and better things", to a richer wife, to a more luxurious lifestyle. He's a puke.

I may be in the minority here but I think these so-called personal factors are VERY relevant and appropriately discussed. How Kerry handled his divorce, annulment, and whatever was in-between, all these things speak to his character.

Not to say that they should be the focus of the campaign. Negative campaigning isn't the best kind, when your candidate is as good as George Bush. But people should be aware of these things about John Kerry.

How did you feel when he said "none of your business" about what foreign leaders endorsed him? and his taxes? and Teresa's taxes? and his medical records? and his military records?

Nothing unflattering to John Kerry is any of our business, is it? That's his position.
