FBI urges vigilance for July 4
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

Daschle concerned about 'sobering' terror briefing
BY DONNA SMITH, Black Hills Pioneer July 09, 2004
SPEARFISH -- Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Thursday that he was very concerned about homeland security issues in the face of what he called the most sobering terror report he had heard recently.
The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts underway to ''ramp up security,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.
"It is absolutely essential for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to what we can do to make America safe," Daschle said.
Of particular concern are the nation's borders and ports, Daschle said, and there are security issues unresolved as the homeland security appropriations are "hung up" in the Senate.
Asked if the timing of the terror concerns might be aimed at stealing political thunder from the announcement of John Edwards as the democratic vice presidential candidate, Daschle replied, "The report is so sobering and so serious that I cannot bring myself to believe anyone in this administration would use this for political purposes."
Daschle said the most recent terror briefing was the second this week and contained information that there is a higher threat than there has been at any time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
They won't raise the threat level, as the liberal, commie, democrats go into orbit.
If you listen to a 'other view' radio talk show, you will be amazed at the reaction of that crowd. Or at least I am.
People burned out on the raised levels and it has been pretty well decided to be a wasted effort, by the general public.
How about our President BEING in Wisc from 7-14?!

In a conference call with South Dakota reporters, Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle said that while he received no information about specific targets, there is "information that would lead anyone to believe that there is a higher threat level today than there has been for some time."
Daschle, D-South Dakota, told CNN the presentation was "elaborate" and said the concern over a possible attack is great.

A bad check meets a widow's shotgun
Jimmy Yokely walked into Madison Liquors on Monday with a big smile and a check to cash - just like two others the Covington liquor store had cashed for him this month. But owner Lena Cupp gave him a warmer reception than he expected. 'I was teasing him and kidding with him,' the 59-year-old widow said. 'And I just walked over real quiet and locked the door.' Then she pulled out a shotgun and invited Jimmy to sit down while she dialed 911. Go to the story.
I know YOU are my hero MA!
My thougths exactly....probably why I was a little more than over the top with my responses. Seemed they were trying to elicit a scardy cat response....sorry we Americans won't have any of that.
I made sure to ping you on the food stamp guy...once I saw the Chicago link!!! Isn't it your job to take care of all those guys in Chi-town?
On my findings....back in college and for a few years afterward I worked for an alphabet agency. The job was amazing but the pay was peanuts. I still have a few contacts, but I find things mainly by chance.
I have not.
