Well, my husband and I finished high school, graudated from college. I paid my own way with loans, that I repaid on time. And that is how I see America. We WORK for what we get. We never had slaves or servants. We didn't inherit. That is what I am teaching my kids... you get ahead with HARD WORK. And that is how I see success in the West. We aren't "rich" but we worked hard for everything we have. And the American dream is available for anyone who would work for it. And as a person who can prove I had a black slave ancestor I would be in line to receive reparations. But I think reparations are a bad idea as he mentioned in the article. The people I see who don't make it are lazy, drunks, druggies, etc. And people with a huge chip on their shoulder. I see only one race... the HUMAN RACE.
This is why I am optimistic about Iraq. Capitalism and democracy are basically just human cooperation writ large. Science plus cooperation = peace and prosperity. You grow the pie and join to eat it at the same table, rather than dominating or butchering each other to get a piece of a shrinking pie that is doled out in crumbs by the gov't.
