Egypt Tourist Alert (May 25, 2004)
Tourist should be aware that a new law Number 89/2004 launched by the Egyptian Government on May 22nd, 2004 and effective immediately, increase the sales tax for hotels from five to ten percent. Obviously this will result in a five percent increase in most hotel rooms.
PING
This is a "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" -- Archeology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc. PING list.
Farmfriend who kept the GGG left FR and we don't have her ping list.
I am trying to re-create/create a ping list for the above topic.
I assembled this list by going through some related threads, and you either posted on them, or someone pinged you to them, so I am assuming there is some interest.
I apologize to those who don't want to be on this list.
PLEASE FREEPMAIL ME, if you want on or off this list.
If you want off, I will take your name off immediately and won't bother you any more.
Hopefully in a few days those who want off, will get off and we'll only have those who really do want to be on it.
I just had to start somewhere.
I needed a break from all the depressing news. Thanks!!!!
I always get amused at Dr Hawass. He's a publicity hound. LOL But that's good. He's done more for Egyptian archaeology than anybody, in my opinion.
Zahi Hawass loooooves finding gold. Regardless, MANY THANKS for posting this!AvarisThe identification of Avaris with el-Arish is detailed in Ages in Chaos, Vol. I, Ch. 2.
by Immanuel Velikovsky
A plan to survey and dig on the site met an opposition on the part of Dr. Aviram, director of Antiquities in Israel.
It is quite probable that the Hyksos (Amalekites) hid their gold in the ground before the surrender. Therefore excavation may bring out important findings.
The river bed (of Wadi el-Arish) was the scene of fighting between the besieged and the Israelites under Saul in alliance with Kamose and Ahmose, the Egyptians.
The identification of Avaris with el-Arish goes together with the identification of the Hyksos with the Amalekites.
The ancients would be horrified at what has become of Egypt today.
