WASHINGTON D.C. - According to Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld upon his return from last weekend's NATO summit, Polish troops serving in Iraq have uncovered an additional 17 shells of sarin and mustard gas. These chemical shells were part of the weapons stash America had identified as still "needing to be accounted for", from U.N. inspection inventories in 1998.
Weapons experts surmise that each shell could produce enough lethal gas to kill as many as 4000-5000 people each.
The find is especially interesting in light of Saddam Hussein's defiance before Iraqi judges today in Iraq.
According to estimates coalition troops have now accounted for close to 30 such shells. It is important to note that several of the charges against Saddam are those of killing 5000 Kurds or more at a time through the use of chemical weapons.
Sec. Rumsfeld was appearing on the Roger Hedgecock show in San Diego when he told of the Polish troop's discovery. A complete report of the interview can be found on the Department of Defense web-site.
